LIBER, Vienna University Library and Archive Services, the National Library of the Netherlands (KB), the University of Leiden, the Consortium of European Research Libraries and the Austrian National Library, in cooperation with Thomson Reuters, are pleased to announce that the 3rd LIBER Workshop on Digital Curation "Keeping Data. The Process of Data Curation will take place at the University of Vienna from May 19-20 2014.

The workshop will focus on the crucial questions:

  • How can academic institutions manage the scientific and administrative process of digital objects?
  • Which representation of the records will be the target of preservation?
  • How can Data Management Plans facilitate day-to-day work?

The management of digital objects is a crucial issue for the whole scientific and administrative process within an academic institution. The need to unambiguously locate and access the digital resources, as well as to associate them with the related metadata is an essential requirement for managing, accessing, reusing, retrieving and preserving huge amounts of cultural and intellectual resources. Along with the tide of Big Data, the relevance of this issue has dramatically increased, making it clear that academic institutions have to take actions and develop plans that foster achievement of these goals.

In this conference, we argue that the introduction of comprehensive Data Management Plans is the imminent step for the institutions and their repositories which seek to fulfil requirements set to them.

Registration is now open on the official website of the event: http://liber2014.univie.ac.at.
