Dear Mr. Hsiao,

I am working on the homework assignment, and had an issue with a specific line of code not giving me the output I desired. As a result, I asked ChatGPT for some assistance and inspiration. They provided me with a method I could use and a way of utilizing it, which allowed me to continue.

Since the proposal provided by the AI gave me the exact output I desired by applying additional methods I would like to use it, but due to the strict plagiarism regulations I wasn't sure if this is allowed. By using the documentation about the method given I found the same answer myself after, but since I officially didn't think of it myself I could understand how this isn't allowed, therefore I wanted to ask you about this. Note that this would be about a single line of code, I would never utilize the AI to completely write the code for me, it just helped me solve an issue and I was unsure whether I could use this for my answer.

Thank you in advance for your insights.

Kind regards,

Jorick

Jorick,

In short, yes, you can use ChatGPT.

The purpose of homework is to make you familiar with data analysis process, and makes your hand dirty.
So students are allowed to use AI-based tools, such as ChatGPT.
But, as I mentioned before, students should take the response to check the suggested answer provided by AI, in order to make sure the answer (or a modified one) is exactly what you want.

And TA will grade your homework base on the analysis process you design and the explanation you give.

Thanks,
HSIAO
