Hello,

David Sorrell, Director of Utilities and Erin Keys, the Engineering and Operations Manager for the City will be available on August 10th at 6:00 PM via Zoom. NCCNA Board will be asking questions around the proposed stormwater solution to address flooding on 6th and 7th and Hickman Avenue by the Jefferson Jr High practice fields. This project is the focus of a Council Work Session on August 17th.

The proposed solution involves tearing down two homes. One on the South end of 6th and another on Hickman Avenue on the West side of the Corner.  Removing two recently remodeled, affordable homes is not a solution we can support.

In addition, this project is the first phase that involves a variety of projects along 6th and 7th to address flooding and sewer overflows in this area.  Our concerns are focused on the following:

     1.  Removing affordable homes is a bad solution.
     2.  If that is absolutely necessary, then what kinds of guarantees are there that this will solve                the problem.
     3.  The city has a history of removing homes in central neighborhoods without following up                    on the rest of the projects.  (Again Street Park is the latest example of this)

If you are interested in attending this meeting, please contact me and I will send you the Zoom information.  If you have questions or suggestions or ideas, please let me know.

Thank you,

Susan Maze
