On March 27th at the IBM Building in Petach Tikvah, there will be an Asterisk
Conference. All the details are on this hebrew site: www.asterisk.org.il.

I'm trying to find out about cost and how much will be in Hebrew vs English.

So I just got some answers to my questions:

- What times are you expecting
the show to last?

>> The show is planned to last from around 8:30am till
around 18:00pm.

- If my Hebrew is only so-so, do you think it still makes
sense for me to come from Jerusalem?

>> You would be fine, as we will have
some presentations in English, and

>> there will be an english speaking croud,
so you should be fine.

- What is the cost of the show?

>> Best of all -
IT'S FREE

Shlomo,

Is the asterix conference appropriate for newbies?

Reuven,

From what I gathered they are going to have many sessions for different
levels. Is it ok for newbies, I don't know. You should know that O'Reilly
has released an asterisk book in PDF format for free. I have read a good
portion of that book and found it very well written and very helpful. (http://voipspeak.net/images/stories/orielly/AsteriskTFOT.zip)

For enterprise level applications, you should know that failover or fault
tolerance in Asterisk is difficult. However, for a small or medium sized
business, as a PBX, Asterisk is very well positioned. I read a great article
regarding MIT where they use OpenSER for their main SIP Routing and Proxying
and they use Asterisk for applications like vmail or other apps. This seems
to be the favored design for failover or a higher level of fault tolerance.

OpenSER is built for higher throughput and more connections. However,
the documentation I've found so far is a bit more problematic and I haven't
tried to configure it yet.

I know that's a lot more than you asked, but
I hope that it's all helpful.

I have the dead tree version of the O'Reilly book for lending, as well as VoIP Hacks.

I use VoiceEclipse, www.voiceeclipse.com It's $19.99/month for two lines, I ported my house line from the States to VoIP. You can bring your own hardware; I have a Grandstream Handytone (and a couple of spares). Voicemail to Email, vFax (though the quality is sub-optimal), follow-me, all that. And, I'll even split the $10 referral fee with anyone ;-) The only downside is that I have to power cycle the box every few days, which I suspect is cheap hardware, not service related. Give me your US number and I'll call you so you can hear the quality, if you like.
