Highway One Ends The Summer Season With Show In Stinson Beach

Trad bluegrass unit Highway One travels north on, well, Highway One, to
Stinson Beach for the last time this beach season on Sunday, September
10. The band plays on the Sand Dollar Restaurant's comfortable outdoor
patio, noon-3:00pm. FREE. Following the final HO show, the tiny seaside
West Marin community will be completely disassembled and packed away
for the winter at a nearby public storage warehouse, only to return in
the spring, shortly after the storied winter ice breakup in Stinson
Creek. Or maybe not. members.cruzio.com/~tmanuel/

Always Thinkin' At The End: The Small Bluegrass Events

When I was new to bluegrass, I liked bluegrass events on a strict
"bigger is better" basis. More big names! More people! More, more,
more! With the passage of time, I have come to value the smaller
bluegrass events as much or even more than the big ones. Small events
are easy, fun, & cheap. The bands are good and the after-hours jamming
is always first class.

Since I am in Tennessee this weekend and will have to miss one of my
annual favorites -- the modest-sized Johnson Farm gathering -- I sought
a Volunteer State event that would allow me to enjoy a bit of bluegrass
this Saturday. I found a small event near Chattanooga that just may fit
the bill: First, my friends were careful to warn me that this would not
be a "real" bluegrass festival like Bean Blossom or Grey Fox. Second,
my friends' driving directions end with "Free camping -- just park in
his yard." That sounds small enough for me!

Hope all of you have some bluegrass fun this weekend back in the Golden
State....mh
