SATURDAY: Frank Solivan II Of The US Navy Band Plays The Great Room

There is nothing better than hearing a great bluegrass musician playing
up close and personal in an intimate music performance space. Fans of
Frank Solivan II and his band will have a rare chance for just such an
opportunity Saturday, August 12 at the home of Robert Cornelius in the
Santa Cruz Mountains. The day will be filled with private and group
lessons, followed by dinner and the Great Room concert, all separately
ticketed. Frank's bio basically runs from "Kids On Stage at Grass
Valley" to "US Navy Bluegrass Band at the White House." And now -- "The
Great Room!" Frank will bring along his brand new solo album, "Selfish
Tears." Reservations (required): (408) 353-8347. Info:

Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys At The Atlas Cafe, San Francisco

Just back from winning the bronze medal in the Rockygrass Bluegrass
Olympics, SF's own Belle Monroe & Her Brewglass Boys will play 8:00pm
tonight at the Atlas Cafe, 20th at Alabama, San Francisco. FREE. Before
next year's Rockygrass band contest (so we hear), the band plans to do
something they didn't have time for this year: Practice.

Always Thinkin' At The End: New Officers, Old GOF

At its organizational meeting this week, the new NCBS board of
directors elected Mike McKinley, president; Jim Cossey, vice-president;
Mike Fisher, treasurer; and Brenda Hough, secretary. That leaves the
rest of us as your 2006-2007 NCBS bluegrass offensive line: Penny
Godlis, Susy Varian, Gary Mansperger, Michael Hall, and Mary Kennedy.
Congratulations to all!

The board also carefully considered all points of view (including the
many, many helpful comments from NCBS members) and decided to make no
significant changes in the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival for
2007. All together now: Mark your calendars *IN INK*: Friday-Sunday,
July 13-15, 2007...mh
