King's River Bluegrass Festival at Hobb's Grove in Sanger (30 miles
east of Fresno). This festival focuses on Fresno Area and Bay Area
bands. Excellent music, beautiful location, nice camping area. Small,
cute, fun. Saturday-Sunday, September 23-24 (free Friday night camping
also available). Lost Coast (was Donner Mountain), Smiley Mountain
Band, Barefoot Nellies, Kenny Hall, Mighty Crows and many more. Of

North Carolina To Build Bluegrass Banjo Museum

There is a banjo museum in Oklahoma, but it is devoted to the
"4-string, trad jazz" sort of banjo. Now, North Carolina plans to start
a BLUEGRASS banjo museum as tourist attraction. Rockingham County, the
historic home of banjoist Charlie Poole, has landed a $10,000 grant to
plan the launch a new banjo museum in the town of Eden -- and strictly
of the "bluegrass, 5-string" sort. The new museum is a project of
Piedmont Folk Legacies, Inc., host of the annual Charlie Poole Music
Festival. <http://www.charlie-poole.com>

"Daylight Charlie" Added To KPIG Bluegrass DJ Staff

Charles Allen "Daylight Charlie" Knoth is the newest bluegrass on-air
staff member at KPIG. He joins his grandfather "Cuzin" Al Knoth to host
the Sunday evening bluegrass program. We have it on good authority that
he knows something of bluegrass music and that he shows up for work on
time. We think he's pretty good for not having 3 decades of on-air
bluegrass experience. KPIG Radio is on the air in the Monterey Bay
Area, in San Francisco, and on the lower Central Coast. Also on the
web. Well worth a listen for BG folks. <http://www.kpig.com>

- Jerry Douglas will do a solo show at the Black Oak Casino, Sonora on
Sunday, October 8. New admission charge: FREE. New show time: 2:00pm.
New smoking policy: Willow Creek Lounge, where the show will be held,
is now a non-smoking venue. Free overnight RV camping in the parking
lot. These sound like very civilized terms for that foothills sortie
for you Bay Area Dobro fans. (Note: If you choose to gamble in the
casino, you will be forced to engage in second-hand smoking, which will
increase your chances of suffering a painful early death. We don't know
why this venue has this out-of-date policy.)
