What To Do On Labor Day Weekend If You Have No Strawberry Tickets

The Strawberry Fall Music Festival at Camp Mather on Labor Day Weekend
has been completely SOLD OUT far longer than the Bush administration.
You can troll for available re-sale tickets online at
http://phorum.freeradio.com/list.php?f=8 . No luck? Here are some
holiday weekend alternatives to consider:

1. Four Corners Folk Festival, Pagosa Springs, CO. This event is more
sharply focused on progressive bluegrass, folk and Americana than
current Strawberry programming, but many 'ol familiar Strawberry acts
will be there. Also quite Strawberrylike: the absolutely gorgeous
mountain setting. Added benefit: Hot springs for nightly soaking are a
mile down the hill from the festival campground. Aaaaah! And tickets
are still available. http://www.folkwest.com

2. Burning Man Festival, Black Rock City, Black Rock Desert, NV. Some
music, lots of extreme art, lots of naked folks, VERY demanding camping
conditions. We understand that the highly artistic public copulation
exhibit is near the center of camp. We hope there is a Burning Man
exhibit or two featuring bluegrass music. We really do -- that public
love thing could get old after a day or two, no matter how many fresh
volunteers are added to the que. Added benefit: A daily festival
newspaper with a professional staff of 20 is published on site. (Going?
We would love a real "bluegrass person" report on this event.) Tickets
at the gate. http://www.burningman.com

3. Americana Jukebox, San Francisco. Shelby Ash stages this show on the
first Saturday evening of every month. On September 2: The Earl
Brothers (bluegrass), Back 40 (country & bluegrass), & Klezmania!
(klezmer). All bands are from The City & County of San Francisco, State
of California. $8. The Knockout, 3223 Mission Street @Valencia, SF.
Info: (415) 550-6994. Music at 9:00pm. Added benefit: You can spend the
rest of the weekend bar-be-cute-ing (and such) around the old home
place.

4. Tapestry In Talent, San Jose. A Labor Day weekend tragedy -- no
bluegrass -- but a variety of other worthy non-mainstream styles. FREE.
Downtown San Jose, Saturday-Monday, Sept. 2-4. Added benefit: Proceeds
support the arts in the South Bay. http://tapestryarts.org
