NC AER-Network: Introduction and Guideline

Welcome to the NC AER-network! The purpose of this Google Group is to facilitate communication among VI professionals in North Carolina and beyond. Some questions you might have:

How is this different from the [ncvi] listserv? The NC AER-network is intended as a companion to the [ncvi] listerv, which is moderated by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The [ncvi] listserv remains quite valuable, but the scope and purpose of that listserv is specific to DPI concerns. Our hope is that this message board will host a broader range of subjects, including some topics that are outside of the scope of the [ncvi] listserv. We encourage VI professionals to join this group, but to remain subscribed to the [ncvi] listserv, as we are filling different needs.

What are the guidelines for posts to this group? We welcome a wide range of topics, and hope that, in general, the posts will be reasonable, useful, and nice. Appropriate subjects include:

1. Questions and/or comments that stimulate positive, thought-provoking discussions on topics related to visual impairment, from birth to age 114. (Anyone over age 114 can apply to have that limit bumped up.)

2. Sharing of ideas, activities, and resources that promote best practices in the field of vision impairment, orientation and mobility, rehabilitation services, assistive technology, and related fields.

3. Professional development opportunities of interest to professionals in the VI field.

4. Notices of VI-related job vacancies within North Carolina and surrounding areas, including vacancies in public schools, private schools, contracting agencies, and other entities that provide services, training, or equipment to the VI community.

Who is moderating this group? Responsibility for the group was transferred to members of the public relations subcommittee of NC AER. The purpose of our moderation is to keep the conversation professional, relevant, and efficient. Examples of posts that may be rejected include: messages with abusive or inflammatory language, commercial solicitations that do not provide an obvious benefit to the larger VI community, and posts meant for an individual rather than the entire network. If your submission is not posted, you will be notified through email.
