GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three arrests have been made in connection to the law
enforcement officer that was shot and killed on Saturday, Dec. 30 in
Greensboro.
Greensboro Police Department have identified the officer as Sergeant
Philip Dale Nix who served the city for 23 years.
Sergeant Nix was described as a loving husband, father, son and brother
who had served many roles throughout his career. His most current role
was a Supervisor of the Family Victims Unit. He also served as a Team
Leader for the Peer Support Team for the past 12 years.
Authorities state three suspects are currently in custody for the death
of Sergeant Nix.
Jamere Justice Foster, 18, Z’quriah Le’Pearce Blackwell, 18, and John
Walter Morrison, 28.
Foster was charged with the following:
First degree murder
Larceny
Conspiracy to commit larceny
Foster is currently in custody with no bond.
Blackwell was charged with the following:
Accessory after the fact to first degree murder
Blackwell is currently in custody under a $500,000 bond.
Morrison was charged with the following:
Accessory after the fact to first degree murder
Larceny
Conspiracy to commit larceny
Morrison is currently in custody with no bond.
Additional charges may be forthcoming following the ongoing
investigation.
Police state that on Saturday, Dec. 30 Sergeant Nix witnessed a crime
happening at the Sheetz gas station located at 3202 Sandy Ridge Road
around 4:00 p.m. and approached the suspects.
As a result, he was shot. An off-duty law enforcement officer and
paramedic were also on scene and immediately provided aid as the
suspects fled the scene. Sergeant Nix was transported to the hospital
where he later succumbed to his injuries.
In a press conference on Saturday, Dec 30, 2023 Greensboro Police Chief
Thompson said, “He was a loving husband, father, son and brother with 23
years of service to the department and this community."
GPD says a memorial has been set up in honor of Sergeant Nix. Anyone
that wishes to pay their respects can stop by the Police Headquarters
located at 100 E Police Plaza.
