Greetings.

Robert Trent here from Velocity7. We have some extra space available
for sub-lease at our Broad Street office. If you, or someone you know
is looking for some space in a friendly, laid back environment, please
let me know.

Thanks and have a great holiday.

It's a nice space, just few doors down from Wisdom Cafe. I'd check it out :)

Nice! I may be interested -- I'm still office-less (and now on
dialup!). Can you say what the price would be?

Thanks Paul for the compliment.

Rob, the office has some flexibility as far as layout and space, but
what I have in mind at the moment is $200 for a desk and broadband.
Good working environment. Why not stop by and check it out? Please
feel free to call me at 470-9292. If anyone else is interested,
please don't hesitate to contact me.

Greetings all on this chilly day. Thought you might enjoy this video featuring the guy who created the coworking space idea, and some current people doing it in SF. Very encouraging. http://www.odemagazine.com/exchange/4182/co_working_independant_workers_find_com

Cool clip Paul,

I too have been thinking about an environment like that. I'm up for
it. The time is right. Anybody else into exploring this
possibility? 418 Broad Street is a pretty nice spot.

If I hadn't landed myself in a way cool spot, I'd be way into it.

(I'm in the 408 Broad St/PowerUp/Power Chick extended suite.) Maybe we could
get some identity for the concept going and do some intra-office activities?

Paul,

Thanks for the link. It's a decent video, although it would've been
cool to see more of the space itself, and the way it was set up.

This is very close to what I tried to get going here -- open floor
plan, cheap space, etc.

To be honest, I'm a little soured on the idea here now. I'd still
really like to see something like it here, and I'd still put a lot of
energy into making it work. But, we already had an opportunity for
this, in brand-new offices (with good parking!) in Grass Valley, for a
reasonable price that would've gotten cheaper, and the opportunity was
met with a resounding "meh". I couldn't find even one other person
that would commit to renting the space. The whole thing has fallen
through now, though it may be possible to resurrect it again. It would
have started at $200/month per desk, including broadband, and it only
needed a few people to get the price down to $150/month. My goal is
space for $100/month, and I think that would have been attainable. It
included 24/7 access, and if multiple people wanted to share a
specific space, that was OK with the landlord. It was, frankly, a
sweet deal, and I doubt it could be matched elsewhere.

But nobody cared.

I have a feeling that the time's right too, but so far that hasn't
matched my experiences.

I'd be willing to try again. Sometimes good ideas don't work out the
first time 'round.

It would be good to get a "happen'n" place established here for
startups and "solopreneurs" of all kinds.

Thanks,

- R.

Rob, I can see why you'd feel that way. I for one am grateful you made the effort to realize such a space. Speaking for myself, I at the time you were getting that space off the ground didn't have need or budget for another space aside from my home office.  But in February, when we've moved to our cottage, a beautiful but smaller space, my budget and needs will have aligned with having interest in doing this.

I'm sorry, wasn't at all wanting to step on toes, but I can understand if it may have felt that way. I'd not heard anything more about that space you were getting going, and when something like this came up - An already up and running business (thus no pressure to get a critical mass of folks in there), with room for 3-4 more people FT, and more if PT, whose staff in a way works like a coworking space, doing both Velocity 7 and their own projects, in a central location, it seemed the path of least resistance for realizing a coworking style space.

I think you, if you're wanting/needing such a space, might want to look into it! Robert and the other people of Velocity 7 are neat folks, and if there was some overlay/social activity with the folks at Shawn's space, that would make it so much the richer experience.

I'd like to make Velocity7 open to anyone who would like to explore ways
to integrate coworking spaces into their business. Discussion does not
have to be limited to the Velocity7 studio. Anything goes.

Would Tuesday January 6th work for those interested? 3PM?

Looking forward to it.

You weren't stepping on any toes at all. I'd love to see more like the
video on our mailing list, and if Velocity 7 has a co-working space
set up -- or something similar -- even better! I didn't realize that's
what they were doing. :-)

Will do. I actually tried last week, but it was an insanely busy week.
The one day that I had for a visit there didn't work.

I like the idea of getting together but at the moment I am not ready
to leave my home office so I probably wouldn't have much to add to
the discussion.
