Trail Closure: Not a full-on pre-ride report, actually just a heads-up on a trail closure. I rode the route out and back from from Herndon Park today and came across a trail closure in Cary on the White Oak Creek. It was closed last weekend, too, but only blocked with yellow caution tape and was passable, but today it was closed with a big sheet of plywood.

There's a simple detour by turning left at the spur at the first yellow caution tape, then right on High House for a short time, and right into the neighborhood at Capistrane, then Caraway, then Bowers. Much easier than it looks by writing it. If you don't want to ride on High House, there's sidewalk and wide shoulder for much of the detour. There may be other detours, but that's the one I took this morning and will take on Saturday if it's closed again.

Aside from that the ride was great! The weather didn't hurt. Tons of pedestrians, of course, but the route was otherwise clear and it was smooth (and/or gravely when appropriate) sailing.

Another way back to Durham: John mentioned the train. You can also get back to Durham on the GoTriangle 100. You can, of course, pick it up at the main hub in Raleigh, but the Lucky route also rolls about 50 ft from the stop I use to get home a few nights a week, just east of Boylan on Morgan St. on the north (Incendiary Brewing) side of the street. Take the 100 to the Regional Transit Center then either the 700 or 705 to get to Downtown Durham, or the 800 for SoDu. The 100 runs every 30 minutes on Saturdays, has a bike rack on the front, costs $2.50, and doesn't require a reservation. To pay by mobile, use Umo.

Early Start: I'm slow and I have evening plans Saturday, so I'm gonna try to roll out from Cocoa Cinnamon, 420 W Geer St, at 6:45 or 7:00 am. If anyone wants to head out with me, just drop me a note.

BCBC is organizing a "Lucky Bike 100" ride from Cocoa Cinnamon at 420 W Main St, Durham. Depart at 8:15 am.

This is a great long ride to bring a budding cyclist along for. For those who feel they can't finish, there are trains back from: 

Raleigh (0.5 miles off route at mile 47 and mile 50) at 1:05, 3:45 and 7:15 pm, and trains back from 

Cary (1.5 miles off route at mile 29 and mile 71) at 1:17, 3:57, and 7:28pm.

RUSA's elapsed time limits for the course:

Minimum time allowed 4 hours 44 mins (1 pm finish)

Maximum time allowed 11 hours 13 minutes. (7:30 pm finish)
