Hello everyone.
I want to share some personal information about me I don’t usually share and invite you all to participate in NC’s only statewide advocacy organization focused on making our transportation environments safer for all.  For many years, i rode all sorts of brevet’s of all lengths in North and South Carolina, Fleche’s and even earned my super randonneur medal by completing the set in 7 days.
I share this because many of you may not be a part of advocacy efforts at the state level.  If you don’t know about us, we need you to spend a few moments leaning about what we do and how you can be involved.  Because we are working for you, to repeal the bicycle and pedestrian funding limitation that makes if illegal for NCDOT to fund independent active transportation projects, to ensure that transportation freedoms and rights to active transportation choices are not attacked in the vernal assembly and we are working to ensure federal dollars make it to your home town.

So here is the invite

The City of Hickory will host the 2025 NC BikeWalk Transportation Summit from September 7–9.

The event, coordinated by BikeWalkNC, brings together state and local transportation

leaders, engineers, law enforcement, planners, and advocates to share practical strategies to

reduce traffic deaths and improve access, safety, and quality of life for all road users.

This year’s summit is proudly supported by the North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety

Program (GHSP) and will feature several Hickory-centric sessions, including:

- Panel discussions on crash-free streets, downtown revitalization, and healthy mobility

- A community bike audit and walk audit to explore infrastructure needs and opportunities

- A stair climb honoring former NFL Assistant Coach Greg Knapp, emphasizing the dangers of

distracted driving.

The summit’s goal is simple but bold: to help communities like Hickory prevent crashes, support

vibrant business growth, and ensure our roads serve everyone — whether walking, biking,

rolling, riding, or driving.

Please take a moment to do three things: join BWNC, register for the summit and share our organization with your local partners.

Ride safe and see you out there.
