Hey everyone,

I hope everyone had a pleasant Valentine's Day weekend. it was nice having a warm spring-like day yesterday. I also hope you were able to get some riding in now that it's above freezing and there's no snow on the ground.

We have an event coming up in 4 weeks for the next holiday weekend in March: Pi Day! Saturday, March 14th (3.14) aka Alan's birthday ride. It's the 110k RUSA Populaire starting in Morrisville and ending at Alan's garage. Since it's Pi day we'll be celebrating with pizza pi(e) and chocolate cake.

Registration starts at 8 and the ride at 9am. Cost is $10 to help cover the cost of pizza, cake and refreshments. Ride and route info can be found here,  https://raleighrando.web.unc.edu/110-km-70-miles/

The 200k is 2 weeks afterwards on Saturday, March 28th, with registration starting at 6am and the ride start 7am. Check https://raleighrando.web.unc.edu/200-km-brevet/ for more info.

Thanks, Mike

What is up Mike & NC Randonneurs!

It looks like we are going to have glorious weather on Saturday. I am probably definitely up for the Pi Day ride, but I am likely going to pass on the Brevet series.

I usually leave volunteering to more competent folks than myself, but I was curious what the volunteer opportunities are.

Chapeau!

Great, I put you down for the upcoming 110k ride. The weather does look good! So far we have one person coming from out of town to ride and another person that's riding with the NC Randos for the first time!

As far as volunteering opportunities they would include being an "on call" sag driver. In case someone decides they've had enough or suffered a major mechanical problem, the on-call driver would arrange to pick them up somewhere on the route. Hopefully at a control point or convenience store. In 2024 (or 2023?) I had to pick up Martin when he bailed while on the 400k and that was just on the other side of the Seagrove control.

One could also man the turn around control and set up a refueling station for riders with bananas, PB sandwiches, pizza, water, etc. I've done that many times and a handful of times drove someone back to the start. The Seagrove control was a nice place to hang out. If you bring your significant other, they can visit some of the nearby pottery shops while waiting for riders.

I'm planning to rent a motel room at White Lake for this year's 600k, that would be the 200 and 400k mark of that route. We've gotten a motel room in Wilmington in years past, but more riders opted to continue riding back to White Lake instead of getting a few hours of sleep in Wilmington. I have to admit it was hard getting back on the bike the next morning in Wilmington knowing that I had to ride a 300k. Stopping in White Lake would mean a 200k to finish instead of 300.

I'll be setting up a bag drop set for the White Lake location where riders could drop off fresh clothing or supplies for the next day.

Let me know if any of that sounds interesting. I could use help with all the above.

Thanks, Mike
