Hi All!

I need to sneak in a perm-pop ride Friday night again to keep my P-12 going. I'm looking at the Raleigh - Berea - Raleigh 109k route (2818) https://rusa.org/cgi-bin/permview_GF.pl?permid=2818
with a start time maybe at 7pm to avoid the worst of the traffic.

Would anyone like to join me?

Nick

  • note:  all the closing times are taken from Google-Maps; I did not call to confirm.
  •
  • Berea:  the turn-around control, Berea Mini Mart, closes at 9 pm.
    • it takes me approx 2-and-a-half hours to get to Berea,
    • so the Mini Mart will be closed, so it  is unlikely that one can get cold fluids there.
  • the Dollar General closes at 10 pm.
    • but I have usually found the D.G. stores lacking in rando preferred drinks,
    • so I tend to not stop there unless in dire straights
      • I did end up stopping / using the D.G. in Wilton a couple weeks ago when I forgot my water bottles and the gas station / convenience store there was not open.  Best option I could find was a 20 or 24 oz Mtn Dew (which did fit snuggly in the water bottle holder).
  • my conclusion:  don't count on refreshing your fluids in Berea.
  •
  • Stem, approx one-half hour bike ride south of Berea:  there are three possible stores:
    • Dollar General:  same hours and comments as for Berea D.G.
    • BP gas station / c-store:  closes at 11 pm Fridays
      • should be open outbound and inbound,
      • might be a good idea to stop there outbound in case they close early
      • do NOT think to use their restroom!
    • Stem Mini Market:  closes at 11 pm Fridays
      • should be open outbound and inbound,
      • might be a good idea to stop there outbound in case they close early
      • the restroom(s) is marginally tolerable, even by rando standards
  •
  • Creedmoor, approx one-half hour bike ride south of Stem:  two possible stores
    • Dollar General:  same hours and comments as for Berea D.G.
    • BP station, aka, Creedmoor Family Fare:  closes at midnight -- yippee!
      • I stop here when doing RBR or Denny's Store routes when it is hot and I need fluids or I want / need to cool off.
  •
  • Bent Tree Plaza (the start / finish):  nothing will be open at the finish.

Enjoy the ride,
...Martin

Notice: I’ve had to change my plans due to unforeseen circumstances. I will NOT be riding Friday night. If anyone is interested I will ride Saturday morning.
Time:TBD probably 7 am or so.
Route: Cary To The Dairy.

Sorry I can’t post a link as I’m on my phone right now.

Thanks,

Nick

I was going to join Nick's Friday night ride (why else would I have researched those store closing times?), but I'm NOT going to ride Friday night (that would be tonight).

I will ride a north Raleigh perm-pop Saturday (tomorrow) morning.  I will start early.  I'll be posting ride details within the next few hours.

Enjoy the ride,
...Martin
