In new version of NB students my students are not able to see one anotherʻs comments

My students are not able to see one anotherʻs comments. Is there a setting that they (or I) need to enable?

Hello Kristin. When you post a comment, you can choose to make it visible to the entire class, to instructors only, or to yourself only (you can also choose to post anonymously to the class)---see image below. Perhaps students have chosen the "self only" option? Are you, as instructor, able to see the comments?

Another possibility, depending how you set up the class, is that the students might be in different sections. Students only see comments in their own section, plus comments by the instructor. Navigate to the "users" tab in the course dashboard to see who's in what section.

That was indeed my problem and I solved it by "assigning" students to the same section by downloading the CSV file, filling the Section column with the same label (leaving it empty is apparently not working), and uploading the modified CSV file. This operation just added each student to the same section without deleting their comments.

- Is this the correct procedure?

- I don't see a place where I can change a student's section from the browser. Is that my browser's fault or it's just not implemented?

Hello!

As an instructor, you are part of the global section of that class and can see everyone's comments. If you don't assign students to sections they also become part of that global section. Students in the same section see each other's comments. You can change sections through the CSV file for now and we will work on making that possible through the UI.
