Assemblywoman Autumn Burke Replaces Your Ride
(LOS ANGELES SENTINEL) - The Replace Your Ride Program is an initiative put on by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), where residents in disadvantaged neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside can apply to trade in their older, high-polluting vehicle and receive up to $9,500 and low-interest financing towards upgrading to a hybrid or electric vehicle. The program also has opportunities to trade in a high-polluting car for ride share vouchers and public transit passes. Read more

Black Lives Matter Los Angeles Brings Together Black Families of Those Killed By the Police in Historic First
(LOS ANGELES SENTINEL) - On Sunday, July 24, day 13 of Black Lives Matter Los Angeles’ 24-hour protest calling for the firing of Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck, the group brought together for the first time the families of those recently killed by the police or died while in police custody under suspicious circumstances for what the group called “Family Day.” Standing in front of City Hall East in downtown Los Angeles the families of Mitrice Richardson, Ezell Ford, Keith Bursey, Meagan Hockaday, Nephi Arriguin, Wakeisha Wilson and Kendrec McDade gathered together many meeting each other for the first time. A different take on ‘bobblehead’ governance in Compton
(COMPTON HERALD) - There are new sheriffs in town called Emma Shariff, Tana McCoy, and Janna Zurita who all share two commonalities — they really are from Compton and love this city. The councilpersons represent council districts 4, 3, and 1, respectively. The “bobbleheads,” as I once referred to them, finally woke up and stopped bobbing their heads to Mayor Aja Brown’s every wish. Read more

(NBC NEWS) - It has been nearly two years since the killing of Michael Brown Jr. by a police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, touched off outrage and a national movement to save black lives from state violence. Now, just days ahead of the anniversary of Brown's death, a coalition of organizations that grew from that uprising have launched a policy agenda calling for deep criminal justice and policing reforms.
