Check in
1. Where are we now re Global organizing: GCC summarizing what we are aware of (we will aim to do what we can of this in writing ahead of time)
Jerry: aware of scattered NVC centers in the US and Canada, no formal networking except for midwest (see Jeff below) India Australia New Zealand
Irmtraud: German Speaking Network Nordic Baltic Circle
Sarah : Circle in Dublin, very active
Ray: UK Circle – main project: family camp
Valerie: Quebec – Lots of NVC activity in Quebec, no formal NVC community activities, no common projects, did for a while a few years back but never agreed what it was we wanted to do together and what we didn't want to do together. Nothing meaningful for now to pursue.
Barbara: North-West, 2 circles – certified – independent, meet once a month independently, trainings and projects together. 2 circles meet once a quarter, coordinating circle Eager to connect with the wider network
Jeff : 2 circles, one: a circle in Ohio, NGO, 10-12 active facilitators, traditional structure with board of directors Alliance for NVC, 7-8 trainers, annual retreat, various projects, help local communities
2. Where are we now re Global organizing:
Round on what participants want to say (see above)
3. Do we want further connection or is time not ready?
Jerry: challenging, CNVC has not found a way to connect with the global network, wishes some way for formal connection with CNVC and global network Is there a way to continue the global dialogue How do we support new emerging groups anywhere, different layers of groups? Share decision making Ground up – and top down Maybe it is time to do more regional networking, centers – get US and Canada together.
Sarah: Hesitant , not sure what they want in Ireland, quite young group. Getting ideas that might help to grow. Were discussions being linked to UK. Were only a few, need first an identity in Ireland. Not in a place to comment on where GCC should go. Willing to support
Ray : Likes the idea of identifying of centers of NVC activity low effort, low cost. Know who is out there. What people are doing. Other things could happen in the future, A small group of people could offer this. Later funding could be found. If European summercamp would like to be included could be linked too. Not only geographical, managing to function well would be important. Have we got the „right people“ with the time
Valerie: GCC would be formed of well organized local and regional organizations. If those would have a desire to connect. Would love to get some inspiration of functioning groups. No huge calling to create an organization, would love to be inspired, what is the offering, what is the governance, who is invited?
Irmtraud : For me the time is ready for two options at the same time:
One low level connection like Ray described, having a ggooglegroup and a simple website to share experiences, for inspiration
And have a closer connection with people who want to connect and move forward in a direction of getting more organized, maybe by regular calls
Barbara: Resonates with what Ray described
Dominic???
Jeff: Vibrant networks would arise out of vibrant local communities. Time is right once we have a mass of vibrant local communities. Really ready for a breakthrough. Been involveld for years, start again, is longing for evloutionary development. Yearning for a breakthrough. Travelling and seeing the enthusiasm.
4. Should we close the GCC for now or is there energy and purpose for revitalization?
Jerry: Imagine continuing with reduced expectations, meeting quarterly. No longer trying to develop proposals for CNVC. For support, connection, information sharing, holding space for next burst of energy. New people to join chosen by regioanl groups or appointed by GCC.
Sarah : not really been involved, would feel sad if there wasn’t continuing connection, likes Ray’s low energy proposal, feels sad if it would just dissipate to nothing, sad but would understand
Ray : Like it to continue then it would not need to be recreated. Is there an easy way to create a service, like a googlegroup Is there a practical and easy way to call people to the GCC, could be enlarged to support Irmtraud and Jerry. Then continue and invite people to join, chosen because they have the capacity and the skills we would need
Valerie: Get googlegroup open, reduce work for us, (ask Noam to support us), bring pieces together about local/regional groups , putting in meeting times and dates, for inspiration, does not need much to happen.
Irmtraud : Continue with a timeframe of about 3-4 hours per month, get new people involved
Barbara: Refresh the leadership, a lot of energy out here, would like to be willing to spend energy. Could build on GCC, Evolution together, something growing at the grassroots. Has energy to make this happen
Dominic: Likes a lot of what had happened. Focus on working with people.
Jeff: If continue as is then close the GCC. Better to keep GCC with adjusted commitments. GCC important for NVC global community, important to differentiate from CNVC, would be sad to see it go away. Could maintain on a minmal level, even phone call every 6 months, finds a value to have GCC.
Summary:
General support for GCC continuing. Two choices have been put forth. One, to revitalize a GCC with defined membership. The other to have an open forum with whoever shows up.
We decided to revitalize GCC. Irmtraud and Jerry will continue and Jeff, Barbara, Dominic, Sarah and Ray will join. Irmtraud will ask Godfrey from the French speaking network to join.
Jerry and Barbara will set up a call for the new GCC to take place within 4-6 weeks.
Other notes:
Ray: occupied till the end of March, want so to make use of Noam and Pan's internet skills to supprot connection
Pan: there will soon be an invitation sent to the
80 groups that responded to the GCC Grassroots survey to encourage them
to register on the new web site so people can see
their
Vision, Mission, Aim and contact information
so people in their area can find them. They will also be able to post
events and announcements to keep the public informed.
Valerie: Would like to have information,
inspiration about local/regional groups and their governance
5. Closing Round: Check-out
Margo: I am feeling hopeful, hearing how the interest in
supporting connection, and the sharing ideas, is so valued. I appreciated
the opportunity to listen and hear what is alive along with hearing about the
wonderful NVC activities. My heart was warmed with the discussion on
meeting challenges: how can we inspire others and stay inspired ourselves, what
works well, what can we learn from each other. Working together has been a
challenge. CNVC’s new website will provide new opportunities to connect,
and share.
CNVC wants to stay connect with these calls, I am requesting
invitations for the future. The opportunity to hear and understand assist
in my understanding. So much has been invested, it would be a shame if the
GCC dissolved at this time. I hear the caring and interest is still there,
and believe away will be found.
Susan: Yinhua Ruan is organizing NVC trainings in China and wants support from the global community. The GCC is more exclusive than I would like with people invited or elected to membership. From my experience, people who are working with viable NVC centers are NOT the people who have the time, energy, and passion to contribute to the GCC's work. The GCC does not bring a product to the marketplace and is thus not a decision-making or policy-making entity. I would like to see a more inclusive GCC that is organized as a network, not a hierarchy, and whose function is to facilitate the sharing of information and human resources. IMO, the greatest service the GCC could provide to the global community is a spawning ground or incubator for emerging groups.
