Hi in NBC
IAt the last NBC teleconference I promised to bring an update from the GCC Strategic Vision and Planning calls where I participated on behalf of NBC.

For your information I forward an e-mail from Irmtraud Kaschat, leader of the Europe Africa circle and one of the organizers of the calls. She is summing up the situation at present, and presenting proposals below.

We can discuss a response from the NBC at a teleconference.

Representative of NBC to EAC

Emne: [gcctelecon] next step after GCC calls-proposal and request for feedback

Dear all,
you have been participating in the GCC Strategic Vision and Planning calls from August to September.

Since then much has happened:
I felt and still feel exhausted after spending so much time and energy to co-organize the calls.
I also needed to focus on financial safety after more than one year of intensive NVC volunteer work in my hometown, the German speaking network, the Europe-Africa Circle and GCC.

Gleanda - as you probably know - has resigned from the GCC to care for her financial sustainability and networking in her hometown Toronto.
So the GCC for the time being consist of Jerry and me.
As I promised I will come up with a proposal for the next steps, you will find it below.
First I will share some thoughts that came up recently when I was trying to imagine how the network we / I am looking for would work.
(I ask you for feedback on the thoughts . Please share them in this group so that everyone can participate.
For feedback for the proposal I have created a google spreadsheet, you will find the link below.)

1.
Glenda’s payment for being the GCC coordinator stopped by the end of June. Glenda did such a lot of work during the time she was paid for, prepared proposals, minutes etc,.
I already knew and appreciated this. And now I realize that if we want a real organization we would need someone being paid to coordinate everything. I don’t know anyone who would be willing and able to contribute the time needed on a volunteer basis.
We all are doing this work on top of what we already have and that is already enough as I understood.
As much as my heart is longing for this I will not be able to do this any longer.

2.
I realized that there would be a lot of work / coordination on creating a structure. I experienced and still experience this with the German speaking network D-A-CH even after nearly 2 years after founding it.
For example: who would be members. Who is going to decide who will become a member. In the GCC we had members (representatives / coordinators) from different continents and language zones.
Would we continue like this?
If so, there is no American circle any more – who would elect someone?
There is no representative from Africa. There are no funds to support someone from Africa to participate in calls…..
Would we work with the people who where on the calls who where selected by people from their regions? Then many of you told us that you are so busy that you might back up the new leadership team and not being actively involved.

3.
I realized I have no energy , no aliveness to create a new structure for the time being, I want to work with people, spread NVC, at “home” and especially in Africa. We would need a new kind of structure: see below.

4. I don’t see that the structure we had was life serving for me:
As much I appreciate some aspects of sociocracy I don’t see how it can work for a volunteer organization with several levels:
I am the chairperson of my hometown NVC Circle, I am elected from this circle to be a member of the German speaking network
I am the chairperson of the German speaking network and elected to the Europe Africa Circle
I am the chairperson of Europe Africa Circle and elected to the GCC
4 “jobs” all of which like(d), none of them paid. I took all of them serious and spent hours and hours with this work.
I come more and more to the conclusion that this kind of sociocratic structure may work for a volunteer organization with maybe two levels or in businesses where people are paid.

5.
If as some of you mentioned during the calls this organization would decide we would offer “our” certification, we would even need more time to create this certification.

So here comes my proposal:

We will create an organization with purpose for
∑ mutual exchange and support of groups of trainers,
∑ fundraising to support NVC sharing projects in countries with an economical background where participants can’t pay fees
∑ sharing of training material

This organization will not be registered in any country for the time being
∑ to make sure it is a true international organization
∑ there exist in most / all countries involved already registered organizations

Members of the organization will be groups / circles of trainer which cover certain region (for example as had been represented by the 27 participants of the calls).
(N.B. there is also a request from Ray Taylor from the UK circle to ask if the social change and the parenting yahoo-groups would be interested and welcome to join with a representative)

To communicate with each other we will create a yahoo-groop or google-group.
We will also try to find a volunteer who would enjoy to provide a simple website where we can provide information about the activities of the member groups and of the organization for the public.

We will have regular calls every 3-4 months to deepen our connection.

We will follow up the regional center and trainer renewal fee proposal the GCC brought to the CNVC.

We will check on how this organization is working in October 2010 and decide about the next step.

We will elect a leadership / executive team whose members will take these steps – creating the groups, inviting the member groups, organizing the calls, finding people who will create the website, finding people who are willing to support projects by fundraising (who might get a share of the funds they raise as compensation).
Here is the link for the srpeadsheet for your feedback – please give your feedback till December 10th.
I am looking forward to your feedback.

The next step after having received the feedback will be to share the outcome with you and check what we want to do next.

With care Irmtraud
