Gay is currently shooting 58.6% TS on 26.5% USG since joining the Kings, compared to career 52.7% TS on 24.7% USG.

Why? Will it last? Are you buying or selling?

He has a player option for 2014-15. Will he opt out? Should he?

I'm going to sell for now as he's never come close to 58.6% true shooting in his career, and he doesn't do anything else well.

With that said, unless the Kings tell him they would sign him for at least $60 million for 4 years, then he would be crazy to opt out. He won't have the opportunity to make $19 million in a season ever again, and regardless if he opts out or signs a contract after 2015, he will get a 4 years $40 million contract at some point.

Interestingly, according to Synergy, his post-up efficiency has risen from 0.69 PPP in Toronto (58 plays) to 1.02 (113 plays) in Sacramento. It's actually a little counter-intuitive to me that playing with DMC has made him a more efficient post player.

Synergy seems like such a great tool. I'll take the plunge eventually, but I'm not sure I can convince the wifey that $100 to look at advanced stats is an acceptable expenditure.

Shawn, you used to have to pay to see the stats, but now that is a free service. The only thing you have to pay for is the video.

This is pretty interesting and I haven't had a chance to look deep into any stats since I am at work but could this have to do with Boogie being more of a threat down low than Rudy so it is less likely for Rudy to get double teamed.  Boogie also seems to be a pretty talented passer and I don't really think that Amir Johnson or Jonas V would be considered to be so.

Pretty interesting "revelation" from Rudy Gay in the Toronto Sun:

To Gay’s credit, he recognizes that while he wasn’t the only problem, his career-low 38.8% shooting and career-worst 3.3 turnovers per game were hurting the Raptors significantly.

“I was inefficient when I was here. I’m not anymore. I was when I was here,” Gay said, declining to provide a reason other than “it could have been a lot of things,” as to why his game was so off.

Rudy Gay is a bizarre example of judging players. My rule of thumb is - if I heard that the player was being traded to a team coached by pop/Carlisle/svg/spo etc, would I panic as an opposing team? Carmelo is another case...catches a lot of flak despite never having an elite coach or system.

However, the Kings dont really fit that category. So I'm buying his current performance... he has turned it around in a new environment and could be even better in a system offense.
