striking. The regency of sacred beings over the months, to which India
and Greece have no parallel, immediately suggests Babylonian influence
on Iran, an influence, which, in my opinion, is more profound than is
generally supposed. Yet despite this similarity, there does not seem to
be the same logical basis for the series of the divinities of the
months. This is the more surprising since the conventional order in
which the Amshaspands are named in the Avesta is not observed in the
calendar of the months, while in the calendar of days it is strictly
followed. The basis for this divergence in the case of the months is not
easy to determine.

the medieval church, and various Pelagia legends are extant in Greek,
Latin, and Syriac.1 The Ethiopic Pelagia, however, differs materially
from all of these, and while it presents resemblances to two of them, it
is chiefly interesting as relating a legendary episode in the life of
Paul, very like one for which Jerome has hitherto been the chief
sponsor. The Epistle of Pelagia is preserved in three British Museum
manuscripts, Oriental 686 ("C"), Oriental, 687-8 ("B"), and Oriental 689
("A"), which have already been described in these pages. It stands
tenth among the titles of 686 and 689, and eleventh among those of
687-8, only Sergias and Bacchus standing between Cyprian and Justa and
Petagia. Of these manuscripts B and C! are of the eighteenth century,
and A of the fifteenth. As in the publication of Thekla and Cyprian from
these manuscripts (Thekla from AB, and Cyprian from ABU) the oldest
manuscript has been preferred, and its text is presented, practically
uncorrected, in the following pages, while all the variants of the

24, 2014 – A Russian pilot, who is serving at the “Kant” airbase in
Kirghizia, has given the republic’s National Academy of Sciences a
number of stones bearing various symbols. Several of them have Aramaic
writing indicating they were used as blessing stones of houses. In the
early 1st – 10th centuries, they were stones placed on the lintel of the
house door, or on the post of the gate leading into the courtyard of
the house. One of the artefacts (pictured) actually says “Mayim”, which
is an acrostic meaning “Mar Yesheu, Meshicha” (Aramaic = “Lord Jesus is
the Messiah”) dated by scientists at the Zeitoun Institute as being from
the Nazarani Golden Age, aproximately 600-1000 A.D. Ritual objects with
crosses were discovered in several kilometers from the medieval Nevaket
(Krasnorechensky “gorodishche” site of an ancient settlement), where
many Nazarani burials of seventh – eighth century had previously been

YAH is the literal name of God, or Tetragrammaton in Aramaic. But there
is a problem with such a straightforward transmission, mainly that our
English language version of Jesus’s name doesn’t come from Hebrew or
Aramaic, but rather a convoluted route of European languages which
altered it over time into something which would be unrecognisable to
Aramaic speakers of Jesus’ day.

English as “only”. The English term "Only Begotten" was first used in

It is now very difficult for English speakers to say merely the “only”

carving up of the undiscovered world for Catholicism
On the 4 May 1493, Pope Alexander VI (Roderic Llançol i de Borja) issued
a bull entitled Inter cætera ("Among other") giving all of the
“undiscovered” lands throughout the world to the Catholic crowns of
Castille (Spain) and Portugal. The very next year on 7 June 1494 the
Tratado de Tordesillas or Treaty of Tordesillas, was promulgated
demarcating the line. This effectively cut the world into two halves
down the middle of the Atlantic. Of all of the nations of the world half
were to be owned by Portugal and the other half by Spain, with
Catholicism being the key by which they hoped to wrestle power away from
the pre-existing local governments. All that remained was to send
missionaries to each of these yet ‘undiscovered’ lands, in order to
convert them to Catholicism.
