Hadrian Mar Elijah Bar IsraelThe Church of the East (Assyrian Church of the East, and Ancient Church
of the East), and the Nazarani Church all purport to share a similar
qrgyma (Aramaic = “current”, “flow”, or “tradition”), which comes from
the apostolic preaching of saints Thomas, Barthlomew, Addai and Mari in
the Parthian empire (now modern day Iran and Iraq) during the 1st
Century. These churches use similar anaphoras (liturgies), almost and
almost identical versions of the Peshitta (Aramaic = “straight”) Bible
scriptures. They honour many of the same saints, and practice much of
the same spiritual polity, derived from the same apostolic sources,
language, et cetera.
