The apocrypha is a selection of books which were published in the original 1611 King James Bible. These apocryphal books were positioned between the Old and New Testament (it also contained maps and geneologies). The apocrypha was a part of the KJV for 274 years until being removed in 1885 A.D. A portion of these books were called deuterocanonical books by some entities, such as the Catholic church.

Many claim the apocrypha should never have been included in the first place, raising doubt about its validity and believing it was not God-inspired (for instance, a reference about magic seems inconsistent with the rest of the Bible: Tobit chapter 6, verses 5-8). Others believe it is valid and that it should never have been removed- that it was considered part of the Bible for nearly 2,000 years before it was recently removed a little more than 100 years ago. Some say it was removed because of not finding the books in the original Hebrew manuscripts. Others claim it wasn't removed by the church, but by printers to cut costs in distributing Bibles in the United States. Both sides tend to cite the same verses that warn against adding or subtracting from the Bible: Revelation 22:18. The word 'apocrypha' means 'hidden.' Fragments of Dead Sea Scrolls dating back to before 70 A.D. contained parts of the apocrypha books in Hebrew, including Sirach and Tobit [source].

Keep this in mind when reading the following apocryphal books. Martin Luther said, "Apocrypha--that is, books which are not regarded as equal to the holy Scriptures, and yet are profitable and good to read." (King James Version Defended page 98.)Books of the Apocrypha

Although the term apocryphal had been in use since the 5th century, it was in Luther's Bible of 1534 that the Apocrypha was first published as a separate intertestamental section. The preface to the Apocrypha in the Geneva Bible claimed that while these books "were not received by a common consent to be read and expounded publicly in the Church", and did not serve "to prove any point of Christian religion save in so much as they had the consent of the other scriptures called canonical to confirm the same", nonetheless, "as books proceeding from godly men they were received to be read for the advancement and furtherance of the knowledge of history and for the instruction of godly manners."[14] Later, during the English Civil War, the Westminster Confession of 1647 excluded the Apocrypha from the canon and made no recommendation of the Apocrypha above "other human writings",[15] and this attitude toward the Apocrypha is represented by the decision of the British and Foreign Bible Society in the early 19th century not to print it. Today, "English Bibles with the Apocrypha are becoming more popular again" and they are often printed as intertestamental books.[8]

All King James Bibles published before 1666 included the Apocrypha,[44] though separately to denote them as not equal to Scripture proper, as noted by Jerome in the Vulgate, to which he gave the name, "The Apocrypha".[45] In 1826,[46] the National Bible Society of Scotland petitioned the British and Foreign Bible Society not to print the Apocrypha,[47] resulting in a decision that no BFBS funds were to pay for printing any Apocryphal books anywhere. They reasoned that not printing the Apocrypha within the Bible would prove to be less costly to produce.[48][49] Since that time most modern editions of the Bible and reprintings of the King James Bible omit the Apocrypha section. Modern non-Catholic reprintings of the Clementine Vulgate commonly omit the Apocrypha section. Many reprintings of older versions of the Bible now omit the apocrypha and many newer translations and revisions have never included them at all.

My whole life I've read the NKJV of the Bible. Other versions, which might be more accurate, are "weird" to me, if that makes sense. I've tried reading plenty of other versions of the Bible, including ones with the Apocrypha, but the wording always feels "off" to me due to me being so familiar with the NKJV. That said, I've been looking around trying to find a good NKJV+Apocrypha, which is more difficult than I thought it would be (most are just *KJV with the Apocrypha).

That hand was a messy one, it seems. "Ward's handwriting is notoriously bad," Miller told Live Science. "At least this is from earlier in his life," he added. Ward began his translation when he was just 32 years old, making him the youngest of the 54 or so men commissioned to translate the King James Bible; his handwriting only got worse with age, Miller noted. Luckily, Miller was familiar with Ward's handwriting from his intense study of the translator's texts.

I agree with your comment. The catholic church has tried to destroy the word of GOD from the moment they excited. King James went to extreme precautions to keep the Jesuits and false teachers away from the translators. Please keep the K.J bible original.

The corrected pages look great. Thank you very much for making the better quality pages available. I now have those incomplete pages edited and put in my newer copy of that PDF. You sure saved my project. As I said, if any one does want a copy of this cropped and aligned PDF with bookmarks that make reading much better, just let me know where I can upload it for anyone to access.

Buck Castleberry, What are your sources of what happened with the translators? Who possibly kept track of what dozens did, and whether they joined the RCC or not? As the Church of England was a sort of Protestant group, how do you call them a version of the Roman Catholic Church? Looking for only a few seconds, the considerthis.net Website looks like something I saw recently somewhere that was a challenge to practically ALL that calls itself Christianity, or that uses the name Jesus or even Yahshua, preferring Yahushua as the ONLY valid pronunciation, and that all others are not only false but part of the false religion. I even saw this past week a video with a similar claim, one that connected the Jesus, Yahshua and/or Yeshua (I forget) with the number 666.
