FYI: 10 days ago I sent my Oudie N IGC to Naviter in Slovenia to have the Security Flaw repaired under warranty and to have the new Housing Upgrade done (a cost of $141.00). As suggested by Naviter, I used DHL to ship the unit. A DHL shipping label was provided to me by Naviter but it did not cover the cost of shipping to Slovenia. The shipping cost was $101.00.

Naviter paid the return shipping by DHL but there was an import duty that I had to pay. Naviter valued the return shipment at $100.00. The import duty (tariff?) was $33.45 or 34% of the claimed value of the shipment.

2 years ago the Security failed and I shipped my Oudie N IGC to Naviter to have it repaired, which they did under warranty. I had to pay the shipping to Slovenia and they paid the return shipment cost. Again, these shipments were done by DHL and there were no "import duties" that I had to pay upon the return.

Thanks for the report - I've wondered what the total cost would be... about $275 total.
I am not surprised by the tariff cost, doubting an "aircraft part" exception would apply.

What do you think of the new case?  Worth it, along with other unspecified updates?
Was your battery replaced?

This is what Naviter says about what was done with the housing upgrade:

 -  New upgraded and highly durable plastic housing

 -  All the latest internal hardware improvements

 -  Battery replacement

 -  IGC security mechanism update

The new housing looks mostly the same as the previous housing, with added branding for Oudie and Naviter on the front and the side walls. It is also more robust.

Internally, Naviter changed the way some parts are mounted and added a few minor reliability improvements.

Dimensionally, the new housing is exactly the same. The three buttons on the side of the housing are slightly recessed now so it is more difficult to press them accidentally.

Is it worth it? Hard to say, although having a new battery is a definite plus in my opinion. They say there was a flaw in the security mechanism which has been repaired under warranty.

I will say that my Oudie N IGC has worked flawlessly throughout this year but I do wish Naviter would implement many of the things that are on the Oudie 2, among others that have been mentioned on this site.

If you do decide to get the upgrade, I would recommend the following before you ship the unit to Naviter: Turn on the unit and go to the Map. Take a photo of the Map that shows all of your Nav Boxes you have set up. Do this for each page you have made. I say this because when I got mine back from Naviter, all of the Nav Boxes on all of the pages (I had four pages) were "gone". I had to reselect all of the Nav Boxes that I previously had but I had to do it from memory.

I had an Oudie 2 for many years before going to one of the "built-in" type of navigation devices after I bought a new-to-me glider.  Loved the Oudie.  As soon as I saw it I know it definitely hit a home run for portability and user friendliness.  Like when I first saw the Palm Pilot!  Remember those?

My suggestion about not loosing your settings is do a backup of all the files inside the Oudie by connecting it to your computer.  The Oudie should mount on your computer like an external hard drive.

Critically back up your profile(s)!!  A profile is where are the good stuff is stored.   Secondarily, backup your waypoint and SUA files.  Then re-install those files into your "new" Oudie (using the same computer dance in reverse) and you should be up and running in a heartbeat.  You should do a backup from time to time anyway just in case the Oudie gets run over by a car.

Other ideas about profiles:

- When I was setting up other people's Oudies I would load my profile into their device, then make a few personal changes, and they are now off to the races.
- Also, I would duplicate my basic profile, then configure the duplicate profile for where I was flying (contest, road trip, etc) naming them appropriately.
- Lastly, if I was about to make any significant changes to my "home" profile I would duplicate it and rename it with the date (i.e. "Home.2025.10.31") and then hack away.  If I really foul things up I can rapidly get back to square one.  Important on race day when you are preparing to launch.

I am VERY surprised that Naviter doesn't have a "how-to" guide for this kind of stuff when sending in a device for repair.  Here are Naviter's hints about profiles - https://kb.naviter.com/en/kb/profiles/

I hadn't thought about backing it up to my computer; for some reason, I thought the profile was being saved to SeeYou Cloud, but it isn't. One more thing to remember to back up each month.

In the Oudie N, it's not a real "profile", but just layout (map) settings, and no pilot or aircraft information is saved, as far as I can tell, I notice you can download a layout file from a selectable source, but the current "Save layout" doesn't give you any way to select where you save the file, or how to provide access the ones you are saving.

I learned about two processes for sharing layouts between devices from the SeeYou team earlier this year.

If you log out of your SeeYou Cloud account (which is linked to a particular email) and then log in again, the Oudie N asks you to pick a settings profile. I am pretty sure that will allow you to allocate all your old settings to a replacement device.

If you want to use a saved layout on a device on a different Cloud account, this is the process:

. Save the screen layout on your OudieN/phone
. connect the OudieN/phone to your computer via USB and look for folder \Android\data\com.naviter.SeeYouNavigator\files\layouts
. Save the screen layout file to your computer
. Copy the file that you got to your Oudie with a USB Cable. I suggest you place it in the data\com.naviter.SeeYouNavigator\files\layouts
. Run Navigator
. Go to Menu > Settings > Navboxes & Layouts
. Tap on the Layouts section at the top of the screen
. Tap on "Import layout from a file"
. Open the file that you copied in the fourth step of this process.
