Nava Tehila’s 21st Birthday - Festive Kabbalat Shabbat, Tu Bishvat Seder, and Updates
B’siman Tov we are celebrating 21 years at Na’va Tehila. Here’s to the years ahead!
We would like to share with you news of the inter-generational leadership transition process at Nava Tehila. After a successful and positive transition in musical leadership - we are so proud and happy that Dov has stepped into Daphna’s big shoes with professionalism and his generous heart - we are now very pleased to announce our candidate for rabbinic leadership: Rabbi Nava Meiersdorf.
R’ Nava. has served as the rabbinic intern at Nava Tehila during her final year of studies at the Schechter Rabbinical Seminary, and has been a longtime member of the Levite circle. After 2 years serving as rabbi at the Fuchsberg Center, where she and Dov founded the Wednesday Night Singing Circle, she, her partner Rabbi Yerach, and their family left for a rabbinic shlichut in Toronto. Alongside her community work there, Nava reestablished together with Dov and Meir Berman the Nava Tehila ensemble’s musical journeys in North America, renewing our important mission of strengthening the ties between us in Israel and Jewish communities in the Diaspora.
R’ Nava will return to Israel in the summer of 2027 and will take over the reins from Rabbi Ruth. Until then, we are planning bi-monthly visits to Israel, including participation in Kabbalat Shabbat and leading pop-up events at each visit, relationship-building, and a calm and deep transition process. In parallel, we will embark on a process of organizational development and fundraising, with the goal of preparing Nava Tehila for the next twenty years. The Tu Bishvat Seder is the first manifestation of these upcoming events!
We would love for you to join us this coming Friday night, which is the community’s 21 birthday, for a special Kabbalat Shabbat, weaving together melodies by many of our composers over the years: Daphne, Yoel, Naveh, Navot, Dov, Meir, and Rabba Ruth. And on Sunday, we will gather for a Tu Bishvat Seder in Ein Kerem, led by R’ Nava, Dov, and the Levites, together with additional leaders and teachers from our collaborations with the Secular Yeshiva and the Ein Kerem Egalitarian Minyan.
