To all those who haven't already seen the pamphlet,

It is attached with this mail. I request you to go through the pdf. Also, I'd like to share some information that I got to know during a long, mind-numbing conversation with a junior who's still in the institute.

Apparently, the institute now demands that every student attend 100% of the classes (and not the previous 85% required) in every course, else, they'd be given a W. Also, under the new rule, even if a student shows a valid medical certificate, a minimum of 85% attendance is required. If a student gets a W grade in 2 or 3 courses (I can't recollect the exact number) or more, they are to be kicked out of the hostel for the next semester.

I cannot validate this with a news link or anything, but, I've heard this from a junior who's still in the institute. What this means is that if you fall sick (apparently the mess food is abhorrent, now, and can be expected to be a cause of illness) and aren't able to attend classes for 3-4 weeks, you're given W's in all of your courses, and are asked to leave the hostel, which in turn would lead you to repeating the semester while living in Taramani, because you ate that shitty food.

Is there anyway to get this information through to the older, more influential alumni, and request them to force the administration's hand in such mind-numbing cases of autocracy?

I personally request you to share this information with more IITM alumni so that an end can be put to this insanity.

A concerned alumnus of IIT Madras

PS: I did not send this mail as a part of a forwarding chain. I was deeply disturbed by the actions of the institute administration and - as little as it is - this is my bit in helping to put an end to this autocracy.
