Eroni,

I need the password and instructions for using Putty to transfer stuff to XS

Update on status of server.

The server OpenDNS seems to be working OK. The server seems stable with Squid running. Let’s leave that alone for the time being and just monitor it.

Today all the wiki websites work fine. Previously the OLPC wiki was not coming up. It’s OK today (Sunday)

On authentication I think the password system on APS will not be practicable. My XOs started repeatedly asking for the password so it would be a nightmare in class. I suggest you work on (a) the MAC based auth that you mentioned, with database of users, and/or (b) the content keeper based user authentication (if students can be trained to remember and enter passwords). I prefer AC based without passwords. Other computers (school PC etc) could be username authenticated.

To putty into the XS server you have to use the root account and i have saved a session on the desktop ,
For now we have to use root and this will have to be disabled once an alternative account has been created and authenticated .

As for the AP's at the moment it is the only short term measure to keep outsiders out of the network ,
The only real alternative to all of the access solution would be to create individual accounts on the servers for the children then each student has a proxy account which would give time limits to how much time they may be online and configuring squid to turn off internet connectivity after certain times for example traffic can be stopped at 6pm .

Eroni,

I need you urgently to help us use the Putty to copy files to the server. If I try to log in as root it says key not accepted or wants a password. Please can you help as I am going tomorrow and need to show Lavina and Salodina.

On the authentication, we will have to use MAC authentication with Squid, or the Content Keeper, or finish the job we started on Friday. I can work on this with you today if you are here, otherwise it’s up to you guys as I will not be here. At the moment there is no authentication and the Internet connection is 100% open for anyone to use, including people in houses around the school. WE suspect they log on and download causing the connection to slow down until it is difficult for teachers
