Many thanks Eroni, the teachers can now manage server resources via the PC in the computer room! This is a really useful utility.
They can still start to learn some basic Linux commands though! I have left some resources on the computer desktop. Audacity and powerpoints etc.
For now, I think the best way to move forward on the filtering and authentication is via the Content Keeper. Create a user database. The stock taking exercise will feed into that.
Make the passwords simple for children. Maybe use MAC address instead. Up to you!
When you start using the CK, you might need to uninstall Squid Guard. It is currently using the OpenDNS servers, even though I removed the forwarders line, I think somehow SquidGuard has built that into it’s own configuration. That might cause inefficiencies when you don’t need them, when the CK is in place.
I have asked the new volunteers Gwaine Akken and Kui Seymour who are starting a Community OLPC Club to work closely with you. The first job is to start a database (Excel??) of the stock – every laptop serial number, MAC, owner, and history (updates, problems, repairs etc).
