I managed to recover a battery that was not charging. It was obviously empty but when inserted in a laptop with ac power it showed a green light, and didn’t charge. I will mail the battery to Salodina – it belongs to Kayser. Please tell them.
It’s very easy. Instructions attached and a small file batman.fth
Instructions:
1. You need an “unlocked” XO. Do this by getting a developer key as follows
2.
Whilst laptop is online, enter in brower :
file:\\\home\.devkey.html
3. This will take you to a page where you click the button to request a key. 24 hours later, repeat and it will give you the key and instructions how to unlock the laptop. You can relock it (i.e. if you are wanting to give it to a child) by starting with X game key pressed, or reinstall OS
4. When the laptop is unlocked, you can interrupt the boot sequence by pressing the Esc key (top left marked X) and it stops booking and shows an “OK” prompt
5. Now you are ready to use the attached script “batman.fth” to recover a battery in that un chargable state
6. Put the bad battery in the laptop and insert AC power
7. Put batman.fth on a flash drive and insert into XO
8. Start laptop but press Esc to get the OK prompt
9.
Type
fload u:\batman.fth
10.
Now type
bat-recover
11.
All going well you will see the XO streaming data on
the battery and the charge light will stay red and then orange. I found that I
only needed a minute or so of this, before shutting it off by pressing the
power button, and then it would recharge normally with the AC power.
