FYI

Here's the email directed to team captains with the weekend schedule, tourney rules, bracket, etc. (I guess it got sent to me because I was a captain a couple of years ago -- anyway, it said share it with all team members so here it is.)

Two more tidbits I heard from someone I know down there:
  • On Saturday, there is an 11 am Veteran's March in Morehead City. The streets in Morehead will be blocked. So you will not want to venture that far from the fields during our lunch break / bye during game 2 (11:15-12:45).
  • Rain is expected tomorrow night through Friday night, but it is supposed to be clear and "breezy" if cloudy on Saturday and sunny on Sunday. My friend said they expect good weather for their march on Saturday. (Expected temperatures: Fri night low 49 / Sat high 64 / Sat night low 54 / Sun high 69 )

Parade info:

The largest Veterans Day parade in the state! Major General Davis, Commanding General, 2d Marine Aircraft Wing (Fwd), Cherry Point, will be the Grand Marshal. Special Elected Officials will be Congressman Walter B. Jones, Senator Jean Preston, and Representative Pat McElraft.

Dear Captains,

Attached at the bottom of this email is the tourney schedule for the weekend -- please pass this onto your team members.  In addition to my previous email, a few more details:

Captains meeting:  9am Saturday morning, first games begin at 9:30am
Format:  All games are to 15, everyone has 3 games and one bye on Saturday.  Sunday is 2 or 3 games, no byes.  Everyone gets 1 timeout per half, plus a floater.  No timeouts after the cap is on.  All games have 1hr 30min for play.
Food:  Thanks to all for getting me your veggie needs.  Food will be set up on the field by the end of play on Saturday, roughly 4:15 or 4:30pm.  We'll be grilling veggie burgers for non-meat eaters.  We may have extra, but PLEASE give the vegetarians first shot.  Thanks!  We will also have pizzas on the field Sunday afternoon for finals.
Saturday night:  Free beer at the Backstreet Pub from 6-10pm or until its gone.  You'll get wristbands to distinguish you from the masses.  Come on out and enjoy the brew and tunes!

Looking forward to seeing at least some of y'all Friday evening at the pasta fest.  Please note again there isn't much parking so please carpool (and if you're local ride your bike!).  Many thanks again to Sparky Bartee for hosting this!

Any questions, please contact me, Rodney Guajardo, Annie Gorgone, or John Hackney (john.h...@noaa.gov).  the rest of our contact info is at the bottom of the forwarded email.

Finally, do a happy weather dance!

Greetings!

Welcome to the Backstreet Invitational V -- we're a week out, and wanted to send out some details regarding the schedule and festivities.  We're looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and teams and a few new ones.

Location:  Freedom Park, Beaufort, NC.  There's a map attached at the bottom of this email, also check out details on the website www.lookoutultimate.com.  Take US-70E through Morehead City, over the high-rise bridge and over the small drawbridge into Beaufort.  US-70 is Arendell St in Morehead City and Cedar Street as you come over the drawbridge into Beaufort.  At the second light in Beaufort, turn left (onto Live Oak St) to stay on US-70E and go right at next traffic light onto Lennoxville Rd (Gaskills Hardware is on the corner).  Go approximately 1 mile and look for Freedom Park sign on the left.  Turn left, follow road around sharp curve to park.  Games will be all the way in the back.

Schedule:  We're full up at 8 teams this year, although I understand one team may have to drop due to low numbers.  Please let me and Rodney know if you're having issues with needing players and we'll try to help you out.  Plan on a captain's meeting at either 9:00am or 9:30am.  We will email a schedule early next week once teams are set, but plan on playing from roughly 9:30 or 10am to 5pm on Saturday, and a potentially earlier (4pm) end time on Sunday (we'll have pizza on the fields Sunday afternoon).  **If you would like a first-round bye on Saturday please let me and Rodney know by COB Monday**.  I know some of the Triangle teams (and further west!) might prefer to drive down Saturday morning.

Friday pasta party:  This year's pasta/carb-loading is at Sparky Bartee's house -- 1003 Live Oak Street, Beaufort, NC 28516.  Come on by starting at 7:30pm.  We'll have spaghetti w/meatful and non-meated sauces, salad, garlic bread and adult carb-style beverages.  The location is also noted on the map.  The house will be on the left, shortly after going through the light at Lennoxville Rd.  There is very little parking at the house -- folks should try to carpool and plan to park on Crescent St, which is just before the house and forms a "loop" (see map).

Saturday pig and music:  We are changing things up a bit this year and will have the pigpickin' catered at the fields starting around 4:30pm so people can dig in as soon as they are done. We'll have the usual pig, slaw, beans, hushpuppies, etc. as well as veggie burgers for the non-meat eaters.  Please let me know how many veggies are on your team so we can buy accordingly.  The Backstreet Pub (http://www.historicbeaufort.com/backstreet_pub1.htm), is our major sponsor for this event and the location for some great music!  This is our home watering hole, so please be nice to it and tell Liz thank you if you see her, as she is donating a keg (or two) for Saturday evening.  Beer should be available around 7pm at the pub, and we'll likely give folks wristbands so you can get your free beer.

A few other important details:
1)  Dogs are allowed in Freedom Park, but must be on a leash -- and please scoop the poop.

2)  Please be discreet;  alcohol is not allowed in the park, and please do not put alcohol containers in the park trash cans.  We will be providing each team with a recycling bin, which we will be taking care of.  We'll have some water, goodies, schwag and basic grub for each team as well.

3) Taxis are cheap and prevalent for Friday and Saturday night:
Taxis:
A-1 Yellow Cab (atlantic beach):  252-240-2700
A-1 Yeloow Cab company:  252-504-3680
Carteret Cab:  252-247-4600
Atlantic Beach Taxi:  252-240-3555

Cops love to grab out of towners, especially in the off season -- please be safe and pay for a cheap cab ride.  Also, downtown Morehead City is a speed trap (although better than it used to be) -- the speed limit drops to 30mph through the downtown area, 10th thru 7th streets.

Questions?  Contact me (Michelle Duval, michell...@gmail.com, 919-601-3798), Rodney Guajardo (rodney....@gmail.com, 252-342-2005), or Annie Gorgone (annie....@noaa.gov) .  See you all soon!

Michelle, Rodney, Annie
