Towork, link the Eero Network to an Amazon account through the Eero app, and Eero will automatically detect compatible Echo devices. Then, in the Eero app, you can manage the functions separately for each device. Reportedly, if you have two Echo Dots used as a stereo pair, they cannot be Wi-Fi hotspots. This technology uses the same radio frequencies as access point technology. Therefore, you will have to choose which function to use.
If you lose internet, the hotspot will connect, and your home devices will stay online. Once the failure is over, the access point will deactivate, and your traffic will return to the Eero network you use. The feature will work with any hotspot or backup Wi-Fi network, including mobile hotspots and 4G (5G) hotspots.
In addition to Eero Internet Backup, the $10/month Eero Plus subscription gives you additional features, including advanced parental controls and network statistics, as well as subscriptions to 1Password, Malwarebytes antivirus, and Encrypt.me VPN service.
The next screen will ask you to turn on the Wi-Fi hotspot on your phone and the Echo will attempt to connect to it. When you hear a tone and the orange light has gone out it has successfully connected to your phone and you can use Alexa as usual.
Hi EVERYONE, IM SURE THIS IS A DAFT QUESTION, BUT I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THIS STUFF.i WANT TO BUY AN ECHO DOT, I STREAM MY INTERNET FROM MY NEIGHBOURS HOUSE ACROSS THE ROAD (YES THEY DO NO, AND I HAVE THE PASSWORD ETC) BUT WOULD I BE ABLE TO RUN ECHO OR DO I NEED MY OWN HOME HUB, THANKS FOR ANY INFO YOU CAN GIVE ME :)
Connected my echo to mobile hot spot using tablet as interent and phone as wifi network. Thought software on Alexia would update automatically and then I could use one device on mobile hotspot. Still not working! Very frustrating.
A hotspot question is a type of question that lets learners mark a specific area of an image to answer the question. You set which area of the image serves as the answer. You can create new questions from within an existing or new Poll Deck.
A few weeks ago, I was doing a demo on a couple of Alexa skills that I've developed using Amazon Echo Dot. However, the place where I have to do the demo use enterprise class Wi-Fi (it is where after connecting to the Wi-Fi network, we need to authenticate using web browser). Unfortunately, at the moment, as far as I know, Amazon Echo Dot doesn't support enterprise class Wi-Fi. To make matter worse, my cell phone signal was very weak in the meeting room, so I was unable to use my cell phone as hotspot.
Luckily, I have my Windows 10 laptop. Windows 10 has a feature where I can turn my laptop into mobile hotspot. To make it work, I would make sure that my laptop has Internet connection. Before the demo, I would connect my laptop to the Wi-Fi network (and when prompted, I would authenticate myself using the username and password provided by the company). Once I am connected to the Wi-Fi network and have Internet connection, I would then:
At this point, you can go to your other device (in my case Alexa app on my mobile phone to configure the Amazon Echo Dot) and configure it to connect to the mobile hotspot that has just been setup on the Windows 10 system.
I recently won an Echo dot in a Hackathon and I was very excited to try it out but sadly the dot does not connect to 'Eduroam', the university network. The Uni site says that eduroam uses '802.1x which uses special security principals which are not supported on a number of home devices'. To set up Eduroam on your laptop, for example, you need to download a certificate and authenticate yourself using uni credentials, which is why the dot can't connect - it's not just entering a password.
Does anyone know a way to get around this? I have done the mobile hotspotting to get it to connect but I need to go through the whole connection process every time I come back into the room with my phone, so it's not really convenient.
Your university's APs are still managed by your university and get Internet access from your university. Eduroam is only a network of various universities' authentication (RADIUS) servers, i.e. it just lets them automatically check visitors' login information by asking their "home" university.
(The university's admins could possibly set up exceptions with alternate credentials, e.g. username + password for those devices which don't support certificates, but it would still remain WPA-Enterprise no matter what.)
The university's admins, who control Wi-Fi AP configuration, could set up an additional SSID for devices which cannot use WPA-Enterprise (for example, some locations use an open Wi-Fi network with a browser-based login system), but it's unlikely they will do this for just one person.
If it's the kind of extender that acts as a full Wi-Fi client + access point, then yes, in theory it should work and would be mostly indistinguishable from any other Wi-Fi client. The problem is in finding one which supports connecting to WPA-Enterprise networks.
I'm afraid as you have already said, devices such as the Amazon Echo and Wireless Printers cannot connect to Eduroam. These devices lack an interface that can be used to download and install the Eduroam certificate, which is essential when connecting.
The OP would need to be able to log the Dot into Royal Caribbeans WiFi. That requires not only buying a WiFi package for the DOT but being able to sign in to the log on page on a web browser. That is not only a password, it is also a user name. Can the DOT do that?
The majority of cell phones (And tablets) in the world today on have a single wifi radio, that means they have to use cell service to function as a hotspot, normally if you have wifi there's no reason to make your own hotspot.
You would have to have voom for the dot at a minimum, and really to be most effective you'd need voom for your other device as well. You can configure the dot using your device, it doesn't need a screen as all the input is done through your phone. That being said I don't see any reason to bring your dot with you, seems like a lot of hassle for very little gain. For playing music you're probably better off with a Bluetooth speaker and some songs downloaded to your phone.
Edit: the OP mentions reminders, not music. Technically it will probably work, but your phone can do the same thing and probably more easily, of course 90% of the fun with new toys is playing with them. [emoji2] if you take your dot please let us know how it goes!
Since my priority for a connected device when traveling is a smartphone and having that on the internet, a device with a screen. I would'nt bother with an Echo on a cruise. If I could get the Echo connected it would be an additional cost for WiFi and my smartphone already does alarms and reminders. My phone can do that without being connected to the internet. Also if connected to the internet I can call out to my assistant on the phone.
DH works with the Echo devices, and he says it can be used. You just use the app on your phone to control the Dot and that's how you're connected to the internet. He tells me he used the Alexa Tap (similar device) on our recent cruise in just that way. (we beta tested Echo and I hate them all*, so I wasn't even aware that he did that)
*except for when messing with them, like asking if it knows HAL or Skynet (it says something like "we don't really talk after what happened"), or just now I said "I solemnly swear I am up to no good" and it replied with "mischief managed".
I recently aquired an Amazon Echo Dot, as I want to use for controlling my existing home automation setup with Alexa. However, I got stuck in the initial setup of the device, at the step where I connect it to WiFi, by using the smartphone app. Here is how I ended up solving this connection problem quite easily.
It seems that the Amazon Alexa app uses the build in web browser to navigate to the configuration page for the Amazon Echo Dot, and this will only work if the build in web browser has been updated to the latest version.
When enabled, the Hotspot will route traffic through the WiFi. During this operation, the WiFi is actually going against the Echo WiFi Direct network, so you get a connection error when trying to connect to the Amazon Echo.
Update: Thank you for all your comments! This post is becoming increasingly popular, and perhaps Amazon will at some point notice this significant problem with the Amazon Echo.
Please keep the comments coming, so Amazon may realize the importance of this issue.
The Geeni smart lights is a series of home automation light bulbs, that fits into your standard light sockets. You can control them using an app on your smartphone, or even your voice, if you have an Amazon Alexa or Google Home device. By Mikkel at August 16, 2018.
I finally got this working by opening
alexa.amazon.com in Firefox on my Mac, then Settings -> Device -> Change Network. I was only getting a blank white screen when trying to connect to the captive portal via iPhone (iOS 14.4).
Thank you for your comment. Ive got Samsung S6 edge and I spent a lot of hours to set up echo dot gen2 with my phone. When I found that site and that post I tried everythink and my problem was VPN connect. When I disconnect I fixed my problem.
After much trial and tribulation I managed to get past this point by a combination of switching between normal WiFi connection and the echo at various points. Device seems good, just the app could do with some work.
If this does not help I found that using the app was a problem. I instead went to my chrome browser and went to
alexa.amazon.com. Before I logged in I clicked on the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner and checked request desktop site. I then logged in and every time it gave me the option to use the app or chrome I used chrome. This allowed for the public wi-fi page to load. I finished the set up and it worked.
This Fix really worked like charm, I am facing an issue fixing amazon echo show as this device is not streaming amazon prime videos anymore, I already did try all the fixes listed above what it does not work .Maybe its just for Echo Dot, IF you know any fix for the same echo look please share with me
