Hello everyone,

Just a reminder about an upcoming 3-day Bharatanatyam intensive by Kalakshetra graduates Viraja Mandhre and her husband Shyamjith Kiran.

Please forward to your students.  You are welcome to attend it yourself, too! :-)

Senior students (those who have completed learning one varnam or a 12-15 minute keerthanam) can join the full day workshop. Students preparing for arangetram will definitely find this workshop useful as they can fine-tune their technique and form.
Advanced beginners - those who have learnt all the adavus and have learnt a short piece, are eligible to attend the 1/2 day workshop (see details below).

Here are some details:

The workshop is going to be held at a studio in Seattle:

Full day workshop:

-----------------------------

Sept 3, Saturday timing: 12.00 - 7.30 pm

Sept 4th, Sunday timing: 10.00 am - 5.30 pm

Sept 5th, Monday timing: 9.00 am - 5.30 pm

Half-day workshop:

---------------------------

Sept 3rd, Saturday: 1.00 - 3.30 pm

Sept 4th, Sunday: 2.30-5.00 pm

Sept 5th, Monday: 10.00-12.30 pm

---------------------------------------------------

The half-day session is for advanced beginners - those who have learnt most adavus and are familiar with basic taalam and who are capable of learning a short piece. They will have two sessions each day - one adavu improvement and one kriti learning session.

Our focus is to learn one item and learn it really well; to improve our adavus; to improve our abhinaya and to improve our overall confidence while presenting a dance piece. This is a great opportunity to learn from full-time, professional artistes; they both attend and practice kalaripayittu; Viraja also learns Kathakali; the two constantly create and choreograph new pieces.

Please feel free to email me (a...@alapadma.net) or call 2069794056 for clarifications.

Thanks and regards,
