Hello everyone,

Hope you are well and enjoying the gorgeous weather. :-)

Please attend the Odissi program this Monday, 27th June and encourage all your students to attend! Ticket prices are very reasonable, IMHO, at $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for children.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the organizer (Asha Seattle):

Odissi is an dance form Odisha, a state in Eastern India. This dance form is known for its expressive lyrics, postures and portrayals set to melodious music. This will be an amazing experience to watch as the dancers are dressed in colorful tie and dye saris, filigree ornaments and headgears!

Even more amazing is the story behind the dancers: they are young girls from Adruta Children Home, a center for abandoned girl children based in Odisha, India. The girls have overcome the odds and a destitute background to become expert dancers and confident young women. They have performed in several acclaimed international dance festivals around the world (including one in Seattle in 2013 – see pictures from that event below). They will be travelling all the way from India to Seattle to perform an Odissi concert at Kirkland Performance Center on June 27th. This event is appropriate for the family and doesn’t require you to know the language or the art form J

Through the event you will also have the chance to meet the girls and hear their amazing stories. We hope you will be there!

Dance Event Details:

·         When: Monday, June 27th, 2016 @ 6:30pm

·         Where: Kirkland Performance Center, 350 Kirkland Ave, Kirkland, WA 98033

Thumbs up from my side.

I watched them last time and it was quite heartwarming. We were hoping to get a weekend slot but KPC was not available during the weekend for the partnership. I know Monday is hard but do try and support these children who have already had a hard and difficult life!
