After a 3-year pause, the Ecosystem Management Coordination - Adaptive Management, Monitoring, and Analysis staff is excited to announce the return of the CitSci Competitive Fund for FY23. This Request for Proposals seeks projects that take a collaborative approach to resource management. The competition is open to all Forest Service units along with their partners. Each project will require one Forest Service Project Lead and at least one Partner Lead. This year, we have $100,000 in available funds to disburse with a $20,000 max per proposal.
From 2017-2020, the fund received over 395 proposal submissions and has provided $486,533, with an additional $157,051 from the WO, to support 35 collaborative projects in all 9 Forest Regions and 5 Research Stations. Through the renewal of this fund, we hope to continue supporting innovative crowdsourcing, citizen science, and multi-party monitoring projects throughout the Agency. With the myriad of Forest Service priorities calling for more science-based actions and public engagement, citizen science, crowdsourcing, and multi-party monitoring efforts are uniquely situated to address information needs and management uncertainties, while building stronger relationships with the publics we serve. Please see the instructions linked below for more details and please share widely.
