FWS22Apr211950/a, Cepaea nemoralis (Mollusca). abundant adult, juvenile,
seen, active. active all over on ground & up on shrub stems, in the slot
and in surrounding shrubby areas & woods. Seen while cutting Rhamnus
cathartica (Cathartic Buckthorn), Rhamnus frangula (Frangulous
Buckthorn), Xanthoxylum americanum (Prickly-Ash), and Crataegus
(Hawthorn) for invasive shrubs exhibit at the Sustainability Fair.
This is the first time this spring that we've seen lots of the Cepaea
snails active. Unfortunately, they're so temptingly fascinating that I
won't be taking any to the Sustainability Fair -
https://www.facebook.com/events/1150792445768730/ - where the Fragile
Inheritance table will - if we can manage to get them inside the
building - be degraded by Frangulous and Cathartic Buckthorns the size
of small trees, along with samples of the native species they displace.
also, if we can manage it, Frogs, books, Toads, paintings, Salamanders,
and other stuff. The Fair runs from 10h00-15h00 on Saturday at the
Municipal Centre.
