We have just found out that Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Canada (ARCC, or Scales Nature park to you) has one or more fully funded intern positions available for us, must start on or before 6 July!

If you know a nature-oriented person between the ages of 15 and 30 who does not yet have a summer job, please let them know about this:

The internship is with Amphibian & Reptile Conservation Canada (ARCC). They run Scales Nature Park in Orillia, and receive funding each year for placement of interns between the ages of 15 and 30 for 8 weeks, with partnering research and education projects all over Ontario.

Candidates will have forms to fill out for ARCC, but their hours and duties will be supervised directly by Fragile Inheritance personnel, in Bishops Mills and in the field.

The intern must be interested in nature, willing to handle live creatures and preserved & dried specimens, learn to identify and press plants, etc. The work will be both indoors and outdoors, onsite and in the field.

Known allergies to dust and poison ivy, and fear of insects are potential disqualifiers.

Anyone who works outdoors with us is expected to take their own precautions against tick bites (sprays and/or permethrin-treated clothing).

A two-week trip to New Brunswick in August may be possible, depending on the candidate’s preference, suitability, and flexibility.

The internship can’t start later than July 6 but could start earlier. More details will be forthcoming soon from ARCC.

Attached is a description of the volunteer opportunity I’ve posted for our project which is currently underway in Bishops Mills. Please share the link with students and anyone else who may be interested.  https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1Czia8qA7p/?mibextid=wwXIfr

We will know soon what the pay for the internship is, and whether we may have more than one position to fill. In that case, friends and family members would work well together.
