This was a tray of Poppy, It did not make it as Poppys.
However the Chipmunk decided that Chinese Lanterns were decorative and so placed them in the tray like so.
It has been going on all summer,  I take out half and he places the new ones in the empty space, If i do not remove the debris he doubles up the deposit.  Might be a She  :-)

Ah, the lovely tasty ground cherries. I always had to race the
chippies to get some from the line of them growing on the rockwall at
my beach. I used to get a couple handfuls until my brother came along
with his weed whacker and decided to "clean up" some edges of the
lawn....grrr....Don't ya just love meddlers who want to "help".

However. This year I found a few plants growing up near my little
tomato garden and I have been waiting for a few to ripen. If I manage
to outrun Chippie I shall try to remember to squish a few ripe ones
into the dirt at that rockwall and see if I can get them started there
again.

Our oak tree seems to have a good crop this year, next month when the
large acorns fall we will have entertainment watching the squirrels
and chipmunks competing for the bounty. In years of a good crop I
often see a porcupine or two down there at night time.

We've been enjoying some reasonably priced bags of cherries this year.
We fling the pits out onto the driveway, there are 2 chipmunks that
live nearby that clean them up promptly. Late September and into
October are the most fun for chipmunks, the days get shorter and no
matter how full their larders are they get absolutely frantic trying
to glean every nut and seed they can find. This is when I put little
piles of sunflower seeds out and watch them chase each other.
Ballpark peanuts in the shell are their favourite, the long ones with
4 or 5 beans in them are fun to put out. Chippie will stuff two of
them in the pouch and then try to fit that 3rd one in. In the time it
takes to turn and turn and turn that last peanut they could have made
3 runs back and forth to their hole.
