Everyone,
A few years ago I averaged the dates when juvenile Leopard Frogs showed
up in Bishops Mills, and found that my traditional idea of the arrival
date of 1 August had been surprisingly statistically accurate.
Early this year we had a few yearling Leopards around, and Scotts have
had lots of juveniles at their place 4.5 km NNE of here, and there's
been plenty of wet weather to facilitate movement, but this morning I
scraped the remains of the first juvenile of the season off the pavement
in front of the house (a few spots visible as collected, but more
spotted skin interpretable after soaking in soapy water). This may be
the latest first arrival we've had, but the database computer is being
repaired so I can't check.
In other Anuran news, the Treefrogs have returned and have begun their
summer calling, there have been a few juvenile Green Frogs around, and
we've been blessed by a cohort of juvenile Toads.
