Treefrogs

Listeners,

We've had Treefrogs calling sporadically here diurnally for about a
week, but no calling from breeding ponds, and no calling at night.
Tonight at Jennifer's place on Cranberry Crescent, in Kemptville, we
heard a small chorus of them. We were rushed and didn't have time to
snoop around, but it seemed like they may have been calling from the
cleared land west of Somerville Road, as if the trees of their habitat
having been removed they were finding the remnant puddles of water and
calling from them.

How bittersweet! It is heartbreaking to see the devastation at 43 and
Somerville Rd. They have cleared the woods and disturbed the soils with such
awful thoroughness that I cheer when I see any kind of life reasserting
itself. If the puddles in the giant ruts can be left alone for the next few
weeks... may the Treefrogs live on!

How long would it take for them to mature and exit the puddles, Fred? Maybe
we should form a posse to usher them across...
