Everyone,
Yesterday, driving Hwy 43 between Merrickville and Bolton Road, there
were 3 small Painted Turtles on the road - 2 road-killed and one that
somehow wasn't hit by fairly heavy traffic, even after I'd pulled over
to help it across (by the time I got back to where it had crossed it had
disappeared in the roadside vegetation).
Some wetlands along this stretch where Turtles are sometimes seen have
dried down to not have any open water, so I suppose these are moving
from peripheral habitats as they dry up.
