Bio Blitz reminder: KFN Bio Blitz June 13/14 + bullfrogs calling

Just throwing a reminder to anyone who may be interested that Kingston
Field Naturalist Bio Blitz takes place next weekend near Verona.
Information for the event is on the website
www.kingstonfieldnaturalists.org. I am frustrated that I will not be
able to take part on the Friday, the hospital phoned and booked
George's long-awaited minor procedure for the Friday. These days
these appointments and carved in stone and they send you a summons,
and should you not appear you could wait another year. Hopefully I
can get there for at least a few hours on the Saturday.

Here at home it's feeling like summer. One loud bullfrog started
calling 2 nights ago, and then last night there was a wonderful chorus
being belted out the accompaniment of many treefrogs. The barred owl,
loons and coyotes kicked in a few notes.

* here we have had a silence nearby, which I attribute to the dry
October having killed off all the frogs near the minor surrounding
wetlands. No Chorus or Wood or Leopard frogs, and the Peepers, Toads,
and Treefrogs all a long way away. No Owls, but we have had one burst of
Whippoorwill calling, which we hear only every few years.

The backyard pond is crowded with Green Frogs, and we're waiting to hear
the output from last year's hordes of this species.
