Phoebe calling!

I just splatted my way out the lane to my mailbox, things are melting
nicely and the edges of the "laneway pond" have opened up. Just as I
started walking up the road I heard one "my" phoebes calling. What a
wonderful sound! When I just about got back home there was a
red-shouldered hawk circling and calling. There were some other
twitters coming from the woods nearby but those may have been the tree
sparrows.

I forgot to mention earlier that we have a fox prowling about (yay!
another mouse catcher). I saw it a few nights ago when I shone
flashlight out the window to check conditions outside, and then this
morning it was running across the lawn in front of the house. I'm
hoping it has a den nearby.

Speaking of calling, we have been hearing reluctant chorus frogs calling, here in Niagara area. That is not including today, where I imagine calling must have increased a fair bit with our "May" weather today...
