I ve been trying natron the last days, and while it was easy enough to install the tuttleofx plugins, i haven't been able to install any other package.

What i am trying to install right now is the neat video ofx plugin. I have tried copying the ofx_bundle folder to natron plugin folder but still it won't load.

And there is no error message so i can understand what's going on. So my question is, how would i go about checking what is wrong and try to fix it?

thanks for any help!

I just downloaded the neat video ofx plugin and actually here is the debug message that came out when loading the plug-in::

ignoring plugin com.absoft.neatvideo as unsupported (32-bits floating-point bit depth not supported by plugin)

We will implement a log window in Natron where all OpenFX messages will be kept. Implementing other bit depths is not in the priority list right now as very few plug-ins do not support 32 bits fp bit depth.

Anyhow, just for the heads up:

Depending on the platform there are "official" locations for OpenFX plug-ins that all "hosts" (compositing softwares) should check for plug-ins existence.

On Linux, that corresponds to : /usr/OFX/Plugins
On MacOSX to: /Library/OFX/Plugins
On Windows to: C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins
If you're on Win64 you might prefer putting them under Program Files(x86).

A plug-in is the .ofx.bundle, this is a bundle on MacOSX but a folder on Linux/Windows.

Just tried the 0.93 version of natron with neat video and it still won't show up.
As i understand this new version brings support for lower bit depth plugins, so it should work, right?

In the loading screen i can see the name when loading plugins but it is nowhere to be found in the ui afterwards. Is there something i need to enable?

Also, the log show nothing, so is there a way to error messages? debug-mode or something close?

Anyway, thanks for this new version, (roto tools rock, with a tracker is going to be an proper roto tool!)

Yes Natron should support that plug-in, but we found out why it wouldn't load.
The plug-in internally has a list of the hosts (application) it supports. It checks for a lots of softwares (nuke, sony vegas, da vinci resolve), but since Natron is not in the list, it refuses to load.

There's nothing we can do on our side except hack the name of the application and pass for Nuke or Sony vegas when loading plug-ins.

I will add a setting in the preferences so you can change the name of the host there, it will enable the use of this particular plug-in.

But really this is a hack, you should ask the developers of that plug-in to add Natron to the list of the name of the host supported.

Already send them a message. Will let you know what there answer is going to be.

But maybe including this hack is a good way to go since other plugins may have similar limitations.

Amazing lighting-fast response. Wow!!!

Peux tu mettre ça dans les settings du projet plutôt?
C est peut-être pas possible.
J'ai fait une issue sur github a ce sujet

I also contacted the neat video team and they said they wil look into the stability of neat video in the coming weeks and if it's supported properly they will include natron in the list of approved host applications.

Either way, the hack is a good solution for other commercial plugins that may have similar restrictions.

Glad to hear that's implemented!!!

Many thanks!

Just received a reply from the neat video team. Their response is this:

"My colleague has tested the Mac version of Natron today and told
me that it doesn't work correctly when the plug-in asks the host
application to provide frames using the temporal OFX API:
Natron does not return the adjacent frames to the plug-in, only
the current one is available. If you want to fix that problem in
Natron please pass this information to the developers and
suggest them to contact me directly. I will then provide further
technical details to them."

i hope it's ok to use their content directly, if a problem i can rephrase it.

You can contact them at in...@neatvideo.com
My name is Thanos Pantzalis in case you need to tell them who initially spoke about natron to them.
Hope it helps!!

I will make contact with them as the description is not enough to identify the issue.
Thanks for your feedback

I ve been trying the latest version, and while natron is becoming a great compositing app i can't load the ofx plugin even with the hack that's implemented(i just change the name to Nuke, right?).

Other than than, did the nea tvideo team helped with the issues around their plugin? Hope all is well and their input was helpful!

yup I had a chat with them, and on my side the neat video fx was working OK, the name of the nuke app is not "Nuke" only, check out the tooltip of the field to find out what it is
