Subject: You are Invited to the Birkie Fever Legacy Bash!

Hello Wisconsin Skiers – all 4500 of you!

Four days of American Birkebeiner fun is just a few weeks away!  I hope you are getting excited for whichever events you plan to participate in!  We have a lot of great activities scheduled.  I’d like to bring your attention to a very special and important one – the Birkie Fever Legacy Bash – scheduled for Thursday evening of Birkie Week, located at the Steakhouse & Lodge, right in Hayward.  See below for all the details or just CLICK HERE! to register.  I’d love to have you all attend!  Many of you have been skiing the Birkie races and training on the Birkebeiner trail for years, some of you are brand new – wherever you fit, I hope you will think about what the Birkie means to you and how it has inspired and changed your lifestyle.  Your support with this campaign will help keep the ABSF going strong so all the generations to come can enjoy the same great experiences you have.

By now you’ve all heard about the launch of the first-ever ABSF Capital Fundraising Campaign.  We’ve never really had to fundraise before - your race and Foundation membership fees pretty much pay for the events and for basic maintenance of the trail.  But after 41 years we have some BIG projects that need to happen, and for that we need your help!  By attending the Birkie Fever Legacy Bash you will help us get closer to our Phase 1 goal, so I really hope you can come!  In addition to great food, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages, ABSF Executive Director Ben Popp will fill you in on our plans to Honor the Legacy and Ensure the Future of the American Birkebeiner.  PLUS – we will have a short live auction featuring priceless opportunities to secure a “Lifetime of Birkie”, as well as a raffle including (2) $500 gift certificates from New Moon Ski & Bike, Salomon S-Lab ski boots, a Concept 2 Ski Erg, and more!  And of course, you’ll have plenty of time to socialize with old Birkie friends and hopefully make some new ones!  You’ll also receive a special commemorative beer or wine glass to take home with you. Those of you who attended one of these events in Eau Claire, Cable, Iola or Dousman can testify to how much fun we have!

Pre-register for this event by Friday, February 13th to be entered in a drawing to win a 2016 Birkie Package including race entry and VIP parking!

Here’s a brief summary of our 5-year Capital Plan, with each phase focused on one part of our 3-part mission statement:

1.      Phase 1 is NOW:  Includes a permanent start area & trailhead at Telemark Lodge and building the new International Bridge at the finish, plus many improvements to the skier experience both at the start and at the finish.  Cost of Phase 1 = $650,000.
2.      Phase 2 is 2017:  After 41 years, the American Birkebeiner Trail is seriously showing its age.  In addition to heavy erosion control, we also plan to add more trail side warming shelters, put in wells at some of the food stations for safe, easy access to water, and implement sustainable maintenance to ensure the trail thrives for generations to come.  Cost of Phase 2 = $950,000.
3.      Phase 3 is 2019:  Developing an outdoor recreation center will give individuals and groups a place to gather comfortably and encourage a year-round active lifestyle.  Cost of Phase 3 = $650,000.

Currently we’ve raised $443,000 toward Phase 1 – that is great progress!  We’d like to hit our $650,000 goal by gun time at the start of the 2015 Birkie, so you can understand we have a long ways to go in a short period of time.  CLICK HERE to learn more about Phase 1 and the full campaign.

All funds raised at the Birkie Fever Legacy Bash go to Phase 1 of the Capital Campaign.  The event is limited to 350 people, so register soon!  If you can’t make it to the event, please consider making a donation – big or small, it all helps us move forward.  You can register for the event or simply donate by CLICKING HERE, or by visiting www.birkie.com/future.  Can I count on you for your support?

Thank you and see you all in just a few weeks!  Birkie Fever is mounting!!
