Dan - Can you forward the following letter to the Natives?  Thanks, Joe

Dear Birkie Fans -

Even though the snow has melted, we are still talking skiing. More specifically, we’re talking about the 2017 Birkie.

We have accepted roles as ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gehrig’s disease) Ambassadors for the 2017 Birkie, which means we are hoping that you and your family will join us as part of Team ALS. The bigger our team, the more ALS awareness, funds and support we will have. We need you.

John Jaeckel, a Wisconsin ALS patient, skied the Birkie 17 times before his ALS diagnosis. Even though he can no longer ski, he remains very passionate about the Birkie and Hayward community. And we know that as the Team ALS Honorary Captain, he’d be honored to have you be a part of Team ALS at the 2017 Birkie. Click this link to hear John’s story and his love for the Birkie:

So, what is required as a member of Team ALS?

1.    As you might know, the Birkie registration opened Monday, May 2.
The Chapter's Fundraising Coordinator, Natalie, will take care of registering you once you submit the required information, and the Birkie Team will take care of sending you the race details (wave placement) and all other race-related information. There is no difference in registering through the Wisconsin Chapter instead of the Birkie Foundation. To register as a member of Team ALS, please email Natalie at nat...@alsawi.org or call her at (414) 316-0122.
2.    There is a great fundraising program with the opportunity to win a Team ALS ski suit. (See the photos below.) We’ll assist you along the way.

3.    As a member of Team ALS, you’ll be invited to a private Team ALS party and will receive a spectacular Team ALS Swag Bag.

      4.    The ALS Wisconsin Chapter is a member of the Birkie Foundation and will be notifying you about possible perks and benefits, such as parking passes.

4.    You with also receive information on other gold standard ALS events and become a part of a group of people who will help us find the needed answers that will put an end to ALS.

We hope you consider joining Team ALS, and ski the Birkie or Korte with us. Please feel free to share this message with your Birkie friends. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please email Natalie at
nat...@alawi.org or call her at (414) 316-0122.

Sincerely, your ALS Ambassadors,

Joe, Trish and Peter Ullrich

Dan,
Did you know Tom Hooyer? He cycled with us sometimes, wore Trek Kit and was on the Trek Team out of Madison. Tom taught at UWM. Well, he just passed away this month. He battled ALS for a couple of years. I had no clue and wondered where he went. So sad, Tom was such a wonderful and kind person.
Anyway, thanks for sending this out. I wished I skied the Birkie, I would definitely join this team in Tom's honor.
Peace,
Patti
