Since I haven't seen the intro post, I'd like to take the initiative
and start one!

I am OVERJOYED that the Occupy artists are finally connecting
nationally (officially) and can't wait to witness the amazing projects
that people are creating.

My name is Krissana, I am with Occupy San Francisco Media team and
Arts & Culture working group. Our A&C WG is pretty much non-existent
right now and I've been trying figure out a way to revamp it. One
thing I have in mind currently is to gather a street artist crew and
go out and blast political/occupy-oriented street art everywhere, as
well as ad-busting and all that good stuff. So if anyone is doing it
please throw some tips and advice my way!

Also, I was wondering what people are doing for F12 - International
Creative Day of Action called by Occupy Australia. Here's a facebook
page: http://www.facebook.com/events/138808486234847/

Looking forward to keeping in touch and coordinating with fellow
Occupy artists!!

In solidarity,

Krissana #OSF

Thanks for starting things off, Krissana!

I know that in DC some artists here have been working on doing street art campaigns for Occupy, but have been trying to target them in support of a particular issue in DC. (The issue: Our public property is being sold off to private developers.) There was a building takeover of the Franklin School back in November to put the issue in the media spotlight and this street art campaign is a continuation of that conversation. But so far it hasn't been coordinated beyond DC and is based around DC-specific stuff.

But Favianna Rodriguez, an amazing street artist/activist, did some awesome national-level street art coordination around Arizona's racist anti-immigrant law. I believe that she organized artists to make lots of awesome posters, distributed them to different street art teams around the country, and on a national day of action against the Arizona law, all the street art teams plastered their cities with the posters. And that was in coordination with other actions as well happening on that day. She's gonna be on our next call on Feb 8th to talk about some of her work.

This national discussion list is pretty new and we will continue to let people know about it through the national occupy art conference calls. And we invite you to help us capture the folks who would be interested in connecting with artists around the country around national occupy art projects.
Yay collaboration!

Hi Krissana and other artist here,

Danielle Here.  I too am in SF and have been working with the child space working group and Families Occupy SF.  I would love to meet some time.  We have some artist parents involved and have ideas rolling.  We are getting vamped up to do screen printed tees and tiny tents.

I am so grateful this group has come together and cant wait to see if we can get some ideas rolling that can be carried out nationally if not internationally.

In Solidarity,

Danielle

My name is Dyck, from Raleigh. I do my "soap boxing without words" at
the courthouse and legislative bldg and some retail spaces in
Raleigh.
Hey Janelle,
I sent the following to emails listed on DC's web site for Creative WG
and Action WG but no replies. This seems relevant to this thread...
wanting to develop more dialogue around this whether or not there is
immediate support. Reaction?

My art is improvised and uses several to many forms of expression,
e.g. intro in words, singing in a made-up language, drum, poetry &
drone toning, silence, wailing, movement & stillness. I make use of
the existing energy of the space, the people, what's going on or is
visible or audible like ambulance, police... organic. Theme is based
on 'Reasons I Occopy... discovering myself!' and is normally around
compassion and connection, authority and freedom, suffering and
happiness, etc.. Typical length is 10 minutes or less.

I'll be in DC on Sunday Feb 12 about 2 or 3:00 o'clock and would like
to ask if you'd be interested in sponsoring me to do my art somewhere
there would be a crowd where this could be video'ed for the possible
entry in OccupyLove documentary (you should know I am not a
professional artist). I am happy to do some coaching or teaching of
forms while I'm there. (other effective forms for no-rehersal Flosh
Mobs) I am able to stay as late as about 5:00.
