The ED test case for Healthcare surveys includes lab results and does not indicate that it applies to version 1.1 testing only.  However the 1.0 version of the implementation guide does not include the Results section in the CDA for ED patients.  Does the validation tool for 1.0 require the results section or is this just an oversight in the test data document?

The HL7 Implementation Guide for CDA® Release 2: National Health Care Surveys (NHCS), Release 1 - US Realm HL7 DSTU, December 2014 contains a National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey – ED document level template which does not include a results section.

The HL7 CDA® R2 Implementation Guide: National Health Care Surveys Release 1, DSTU Release 1.1 - November 2015  renamed and transformed the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Survey - ED document level template to  become the Emergency Department Encounter (NHCS-ED, NHAMCS-ED) (V2) document template.  At that time, a Results Section was added.

The Test Data PLUS Certification Instructions document is applicable to DSTU Release 1.1 - November 2015 and states:

“Note that this test data also is applicable to the HL7 Implementation Guide … Release 1.0 DSTU [DSTU, December 2014]. Specific notation has been included to identify specific differences in v1.0 and v1.1, where necessary. The test data workbook includes separate worksheets for 1.0 and 1.1 .”  [The “worksheets” in the previous sentence refers to NHCS Test Data in spreadsheet format.]

Therefore your statement that ”The ED test case for Healthcare surveys includes lab results and does not indicate that it applies to version 1.1 testing only.” is correct. We should have indicated the results for the ED use case in the Test Data PLUS Certification Instructions document applied to DSTU Release 1.1 - November 2015 only.  Thank you for pointing this out to us. We will correct this as soon as we can.

Finally, the answer to your question of “Does the validation tool for 1.0 require the results section or is this just an oversight in the test data document?” is “No, 1.0 validation does NOT require the Results Section.”
