Team,

I've been running some documents through the online NIST validator today and they appear to have errors that I don't see when I do local schematron validation.  It seems like there may be an issue with the NIST tool failing to do vocabulary validation.

https://cda-validation.nist.gov/cda-validation/muNHCS12.html

For example, on the ambulatory document, this error appears in the NIST tool, indicating that the smoking status is invalid.  The sample document uses SNOMED 8517006, which is the value in the test data, and it’s a valid value in that code set.

Message              This value SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] @code, which SHALL be selected from ValueSet Current Smoking Status urn:oid:2.16.840.1.113883.11.20.9.38 STATIC 2014-09-01 (CONF:1098-14817).
Context /ClinicalDocument[1]/component[1]/structuredBody[1]/component[4]/section[1]/entry[1]/observation[1]
Test        cda:value[@xsi:type='CD'][@code and @code=document('https://hit-dev.nist.gov:11080/muValidationNHCS12/schematron/nhcs/voc.xml')/voc:systems/voc:system[@valueSetOid='2.16.840.1.113883.11.20.9.38']/voc:code/@value

I don't get that error when running the schematron with vocabulary locally.  But if I modify that value in my sample document to some invalid value and validate it on my local machine, then I do get the same error -

Engine name: ISO Schematron
Severity: error
Description: This value SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] @code, which SHALL be selected from ValueSet Current Smoking Status urn:oid:2.16.840.1.113883.11.20.9.38 STATIC 2014-09-01 (CONF:1098-14817). (cda:value[@xsi:type='CD'][@code and @code=document('voc.xml')/voc:systems/voc:system[@valueSetOid='2.16.840.1.113883.11.20.9.38']/voc:code/@value]) [assert]
Start location: 1152:0

Could you confirm for me if there is a current vocabulary validation issue with the NIST tool?  If so, do you have a sense for when it would be resolved?

Thanks,
John

Hi,

It looks like there may be an issue with vocabulary lookup on that server. I’ll look into it and report back.

Thanks,

Hi,

A recent server update broke the vocabulary links. This has been corrected now. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Sorry for any inconvenience. Let me know if you are still seeing this behavior.

Thanks,

-Andrew McCaffrey
