Dear Friends,

Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Andhra Pradesh Election Watch have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 174 out of 175 winning candidates in the Andhra Pradesh 2024 Assembly Elections. One winner namely Palle Sindhura Reddy (TDP) contesting from Puttaparthi Constituency has not been analysed due to the unavailability of his clear and complete affidavit on the ECI website at the time of making this report.

Criminal Background   

  • Winning candidates with criminal cases: Out of the 174 winning candidates analysed in 2024, 138(79%) winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves. Out of 174 MLAs analysed during Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections in 2019, 96(55%) MLAs had declared criminal cases against themselves.
  • Winning candidates with serious criminal cases: 98 (56%) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases against themselves. Out of 174 MLAs analysed during Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections in 2019, 55 (32%) MLAs had declared serious criminal cases against themselves.

  • Winning candidates with cases related to Murder: 3 Winning candidates have declared cases related to murder (IPC Section 302) against themselves.
  • Winning candidates with cases related to Attempt to Murder: 32 Winning candidates have declared cases related to attempt to murder (IPC Section 307) against themselves.
  • Winning candidates with cases related to Crime against Women: 22 Winning candidates have declared cases related to crime against women. Out of 22 winning candidates 1 winning candidate has declared cases related to rape (IPC Section-376).
  • Party wise Winning candidates with Criminal Cases: 115(86%) out of 134 Winning candidates from TDP, 7(88%) out of 8 Winning candidates from BJP, 6 (55%) out of 11 Winning candidates from YSRCP and 10 (48%) out of 21 winning candidates from Janasena Party have declared criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.
  • Party wise Winning candidates with Serious Criminal Cases: 82(61%) out of 134 Winning candidates from TDP, 5(63%) out of 8 Winning candidates from BJP, 4 (36%) out of 11 Winning candidates from YSRCP and 7 (33%) out of 21 winning candidates from Janasena Party have declared serious criminal cases against themselves in their affidavits.

Financial Background

  • Crorepati Winning candidates: Out of the 174 winning candidates analysed, 162 (93%) are crorepatis. Out of 174 MLAs analysed during Andhra Pradesh assembly elections 2019, 163 (94%) MLAs were crorepatis.

  • Party-wise crorepati winning candidates: 127(95%) out of 134 Winning candidates from TDP, 8 (100%) out of 8 Winning candidates from BJP, 9 (82%) out of 11 Winning candidates from YSRCP and 18(86%) out of 21 Winning candidates from Janasena Party have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore.

  •  Party wise average assets: The average assets per winning candidate for 134 TDP winning candidates is Rs 67.97 Crores, 8 BJP winning candidates is Rs 34.29 Crores, 11 YSRCP winning candidates is Rs 99.19 Crores and 21 Janasena Party winning candidates have average assets worth Rs 40.43 Crores.

Other Background Details

  • Education Details of winning candidates:  49 (28%) winning candidates have declared their educational qualification to be between 5th pass and 12th pass, while 122 (70%) winning candidates have declared having an educational qualification of graduate and above and 3 winning candidates who are Diploma holders.
  • Age details of winning candidates: 12(7%) Winning candidates have declared their age to be between 25 to 40 years while 118 (68%) Winning candidates have declared their age to be between 41 to 60 years.  There are 43 (25%) Winning candidates who have declared their age to be between 61 to 80 years and 1 Winner candidate has declared his age as 82 years.
  • Gender details of winning candidates: Out of 174 winning candidates analysed, 21 (12%) winning candidates are women. In 2019, out of 174 MLAs, 14 (8%) MLAs were women.
  • Number of re-elected MLAs: Number of re-elected MLAs analysed in the Andhra Pradesh assembly elections of 2024 is 28.
  • Average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2019: The average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2019 was Rs 75.61 crore.
  • Average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2024: The average assets of re-elected MLAs in 2024 is Rs 120.90 crores.
  • Average growth in assets of re-elected MLAs from 2019 to 2024: The growth in average assets of re-elected MLAs is Rs 45.28 crores i.e. by 60%.
