Dear Friends,
Association for Democratic Reforms and Andhra Pradesh Election Watch have analysed the vote share for all 175 constituencies in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections, 2024. The voter’s turnout for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly was 82.68% whereas voter’s turnout in 2019 assembly elections was 79.70%.

Vote Share of Winners

  • The winners of the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly elections, 2024 won by an average of 55.82 % of total votes polled. In the 2019 elections winners won by an average of 50.80% of total votes polled.

  • 154(88%) winners won with 50% and above of the total votes polled in their constituency.
  • 21(12%) winners won with less than 50% of the total votes polled in their constituency.

  • 127(91%) out of 139 winners with declared criminal cases have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 27 (75%) out of 36 winners with clean backgrounds have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 149(91%) out of 163 crorepati winners analysed have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
  • 5(42%) out of 12 non-crorepati winners have won with a vote share of 50% and above.
Representativeness of Winners
  • All the winners of the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly Elections, 2024 won with an average of 46.15% of the total registered voters. This implies that the winners represent on an average, 46.15% of the total electorate. In the Andhra Pradesh State Assembly Elections 2019, winners won by an average of 40.48% of the total registered votes.

Margin of Victory
  • 2 winners have won with a margin of victory of less than 1000 votes.
  • 4 winners have won with more than 40% margin of victory.
Winners with Declared Criminal Cases and their Margin of Victory:
  • 62 out of 139 winners with declared criminal cases have won against a runner up with a clean background.
  • Among these 62 winners, 12 winners have won with more than 30% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Narayana Ponguru (TDP) from Nellore City constituency won with 41.48% margin of victory.
Winners with clean background and their Margin of Victory:
  • 11 out of 36 winners with clean backgrounds have won against a runner up with declared criminal cases.
  • Among these 11 winners, 1 winner has won with more than 30% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Panchakarla Ramesh Babu (Janasena Party) from Pendurthi constituency won with 35.57% margin of victory.
Crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 7 out of 163 crorepati winners have won against a non-crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 7 winners, 1 winner has won with more than 40% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Narayana Ponguru (TDP) from Nellore City constituency won with 41.48% margin of victory.
Non-crorepati Winners and their Margin of Victory:
  • 8 out of 12 non-crorepati winners have won against crorepati runners up.
  • Among these 8 winners, 3 winners have won with more than 10% margin of victory.
  • Among these, Mohammed Naseer Ahmed (TDP) from Guntur East constituency won with 17.81% margin of victory.
Performance of Women Winners
  • Among the 175 winners, 22 are women.
  • None of the women winners have won with less than 40 % of Vote share.
  • Among the women winners, Aditi Vijayalakshmi Gajapathi Raju Pusapati (TDP) from Vizianagaram Constituency has won with the highest vote share, i.e. 64.21% in her constituency and 32.10% margin of victory.
Performance of Re-elected Winners
  • Out of total 28 re-elected winners, none have won with less than 40% of vote share in their respective constituencies. 23(82%) have won with more than 50% of vote share.
  • 6(21%) re-elected winners have won with less than 10% margin of victory whereas 1 has won with more than 40% margin of victory.
NOTA
  • The NOTA button instated by the ECI in 2013 gave the voters an option of rejecting all the candidates in their constituency. Out of 3, 37, 40,584 votes polled in Andhra Pradesh Assembly, 2024, 3, 69, 320 (1.09%) were polled for NOTA.
